Awarded for outstanding sporting performance whilst at university

Adam Hamill – Karate 🥋

Throughout his time at university, Adam has consistently delivered outstanding performances at the highest level of karate, combining competitive success with resilience and commitment. From BUCS titles to European and world championship victories, Adam has achieved remarkable results on both domestic and international stages while contributing as Karate Club Kumite Captain.

Ali Hall – 2026 Milano Cortina Paralympic Winter Games ⛷️

Ali’s sporting journey has been marked by exceptional achievement, resilience and commitment to high-performance sport. Competing as a guide for para-alpine skiier Hester Poole on the road to the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games, Ali has delivered outstanding international results while continuing to play a key role within the Snowsports Club.

Callum Maclennan – Judo 🥋

Over more than a decade with the Judo Club, Callum has made an incredible impact through his commitment to athlete development, inclusivity and community building. From growing participation to supporting athletes on the international stage, Callum has helped create a welcoming environment where members of all abilities can thrive.

His contribution to the club and University Sport has been outstanding!⭐️

Coach of the Year

Awarded to a coach who has demonstrated exceptional impact and leadership within student sport.

Mat Trodden – Swimming 🏊

Since joining the University in 2014, Mat has built one of the country’s leading swimming performance programmes through his expertise, innovation and athlete-centred approach. Guiding swimmers to success on the Olympic, Paralympic and international stage, Mat’s impact continues to be reflected in record-breaking performances and outstanding achievements across the sport.

His contribution to University Sport has been exceptional!✨

Ewan Malcolm Student Coach of the Year

Awarded to a student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication and impact through coaching within their club.

Caelan Milne – Water Polo 🤽

Caelan has shown exceptional commitment and initiative through his transformative impact on the Swimming and Water Polo Club. Balancing coaching, competing and club responsibilities alongside a demanding degree, Caelan’s efforts helped drive outstanding performances and strengthen the wider club community.

His hard work, innovation and passion make him a truly deserved award winner.💫

Student Official of the Year

Awarded to a student who has shown exceptional commitment and impact through officiating in university sport.

Ben Burton – Men’s Hockey 🏑

Ben has become one of the University’s leading officials through his outstanding achievements in hockey officiating and commitment to student sport. From national and international appointments to mentoring and supporting future officials, Ben’s leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact both on and off the pitch.

Awarded to a student who has made an outstanding contribution to university sport.

Madeleine Bell – Karate 🥋

Madi has made an exceptional impact on the Karate Club and the wider Sports Union community throughout her time at university. From championing inclusion and wellbeing to creating unforgettable social events, Madi’s dedication and leadership have left a lasting legacy.

⭐️Blues and Colours Awards Shortlist – Cameron Blue of the Year ⭐️

Awarded for outstanding performance while at university, this year’s Cameron Blue finalists exemplify world-class excellence, international representation and record-breaking success!

Adam Hamill (Karate) 🥋
Adam has claimed U21 European Gold, a WKF Youth League title and rose to no. 3 in the U21 world rankings, while representing Scotland on the international stage. Domestically, he combined elite competition with his role as kumite captain, securing multiple BUCS golds in both individual and team kumite.

Brodie Gordon-Gibson (Swimming) 🏊
Brodie placed 5th in the 50m Butterfly A final at the 2025 Aquatics GB Championship and multiple 800+ FINA point performances across the 50m and 100m Butterfly. He has also shown outstanding consistency, placing 4th at the 2024 Summer Championship final and claiming BUCS 2026 Gold in the 50m Butterfly.

Isobel Clements (Rowing) 🚣‍♀️
Izzy has represented Ireland at the 2025 European Rowing Championships and World Rowing U23 Championships to cement her status among the country’s top emerging athletes. A key member of Edinburgh’s first women’s eight, she has helped secure major victories across recent seasons, including WEHORR, BUCS, and Henley Royal Regatta, while also being named the university’s Female Athlete of the Year for 2026.
