Focus on Maths. Do not jump into programming at this time. Programming is necessary but it can come a bit later. Get good in maths, master it and you will be good. To give you additional focus, below is a list of maths topic to focus on.
1. CALCULUS & ALGEBRA: You should be comfortable taking (multivariable) derivatives and understanding matrix/vector notation and operations. You should understand the following concepts from multivariable calculus and linear algebra:
1. chain rule,
2. gradients,
3. matrix multiplication,
4. matrix inverse.
2. STATISTICS (BASIC PROBABILITY): You should know the basics of probabilities, gaussian distributions, mean, and standard deviation. You should be familiar with basic probability distributions and be able to define the following concepts for both continuous and discrete random variables:
