We are delighted to announce that NKS has successfully secured 10 years of funding through the Regenerative Futures Fund (RFF)!

As one of 11 projects in this pioneering initiative, NKS will be part of a shared learning ecosystem working towards a more just, regenerative, and connected Edinburgh. Through collaboration, collective learning, and systems change, we will work alongside partners to tackle poverty, strengthen communities, and create lasting impact across the city.

This investment is not just about fundingβ€”it is about building a shared future where organisations, communities, and institutions work together to create meaningful and sustainable change.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our journey. We look forward to contributing to this exciting citywide movement over the next decade.

🌱🍚 NKS Online Cookery Sessions – Turning Leftovers into Delicious Meals! 🍚🌱
We recently hosted two fantastic volunteer-led online cookery sessions, where participants learned how to transform leftover rice into amazing dishes while helping to reduce food waste.
πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ In our first session, Nidhi Priya Thakur demonstrated how to make a delicious Mango Rice Pudding using leftover rice.
πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ In our second session, Reena Sharma introduced participants to a traditional regional delicacy from Bihar and Chhattisgarh called Farra, also prepared using leftover rice.
These sessions highlighted the importance of the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle – and how simple changes in our kitchens can help reduce food waste and help tackle climate change.
A big thank you to our wonderful volunteers and everyone who joined the sessions. Participants thoroughly enjoyed learning new recipes, sharing ideas, and discovering sustainable cooking practices.

Day 5 of Dementia Action Week 🧠 Myth: Dementia only affects memory. ❌ Dementia is not just about forgetting things β€” it can also affect communication, mood, decision-making, behaviour, and the ability to manage everyday tasks. Raising awareness helps us break the stigma surrounding dementia and create a more supportive and understanding community for those living with it and their families. Seeking help and support at the right time can make a huge difference, and it is important to remember that such support is available. Let’s continue the conversation, challenge misconceptions, and support one another. πŸ’œ

On Day 4 of the Dementia Action Week, NKS Men's Group came together to show our support for people living with dementia. We proudly wore purple badges to raise awareness and proactively support the fight against dementia. It was especially important to highlight dementia awareness within the South Asian community.

By working together, we can help reduce stigma, encourage understanding, and ensure people receive the right support at the right time. Help and support are available, and no one should feel alone on this journey.

Day 4 of Dementia Action Week –
Memory problems can happen for many reasons, including stress, anxiety, depression, vitamin deficiencies, or normal ageing β€” not all memory loss is dementia. Awareness is crucial, especially within our South Asian community, where stigma and misunderstanding can sometimes prevent people from seeking help early.

By talking openly about dementia, we can reduce fear, encourage understanding, and remind families that support is available β€” no one has to face this journey alone. If you know someone living with dementia, or a carer who may need support, please get in touch. Together, we can break the stigma, raise awareness, and build a more supportive community. πŸ’™

At NKS today, we had a fantastic dementia awareness session with our Wednesday group, conducted by Rana Shams, our NKS Dementia Project Co-ordinator. Some people shared personal experiences, and we talked about understanding dementia, the importance of early diagnosis, and the help and support available.

We also discussed the importance of reducing stigma and creating greater awareness, especially within South Asian communities, where conversations around dementia can sometimes be difficult. By speaking openly, we can encourage more people to seek support and advice early.

As part of Dementia Action Week, we came together to show our support by wearing purple clothing and purple ribbon badges. This was a great way to raise awareness and encourage open conversations about dementia.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to all the NKS staff for supporting this important cause. Remember, we are here to help β€” support is available.

🧠 Dementia Awareness Week – Day 3 🧠
MYTH: β€œOnly older people get dementia.” ❌ False. Dementia can affect younger people too, with thousands of people under 65 living with young-onset dementia and facing challenges that are often misunderstood or overlooked. By breaking myths and raising awareness, we can create a more understanding and supportive community for everyone affected.

πŸ’œ Let’s speak up.
πŸ’œ Let’s support one another.
πŸ’œ Let’s end the stigma around dementia.

Support is available. If you or someone you know may need support, please contact us β€” we are here to help.

No one should face dementia alone.

Day 2 of Dementia Action Week πŸ’™

A dementia diagnosis does not mean life stops. Many people continue to live meaningful, active, and joyful lives with the right support, understanding, and community around them.

There is help available β€” from local support groups and healthcare professionals to charities, carers, friends, and family. No one should feel they have to face dementia alone.

Talking openly about dementia helps reduce stigma and encourages people to seek support earlier. Don’t be afraid to speak up, ask questions, or reach out for help. Awareness and understanding can make a huge difference.

Let’s continue building dementia-friendly communities where people feel seen, supported, and valued. πŸ’™

NKS was buzzing with energy and enthusiasm today! The Wednesday Group came together for an engaging and informative session led by Tatheer Fatima, NKS CAF Project Lead.
The session focused on raising awareness about food waste, its environmental and social impact, and the importance of adopting more responsible and sustainable habits in our daily lives. Participants were encouraged to reflect on how small changes at home and in the workplace can make a big difference in reducing unnecessary waste.
The discussion was interactive and thought-provoking, sparking great ideas and positive engagement from everyone involved. It was a valuable opportunity to learn, share perspectives, and strengthen our commitment to sustainability.
A big thank you to all participants for their active involvement in making the session both meaningful and impactful! πŸŒ±πŸ‘
