🌟 Celebrating South Asian Heritage | 3 September 2026 🌟

It was a great pleasure for NKS to attend the Fanindra Nath Bose, ARSA Memorial Project funding event at Paterson’s Land, University of Edinburgh.

The F.N. Bose short film was screened, alongside the exhibition board and portrait created by NKS as part of Legends of South Asian Heritage in Scotland, celebrating his remarkable life, work and contribution to Scotland.

Naina Minhas, Director of NKS, also shared an insightful speech, helping bring Bose’s story and legacy to life.

It was wonderful to see this important part of South Asian heritage recognised, remembered and shared with a wider audience. πŸ’œ

πŸ’œ Autism Awareness at NKS | 2 September 2026 πŸ’œ

We were delighted to welcome Sofia from Scottish Ethnic Minority Autistics back to our Ladies Group for her second community training session on autism.

The ladies learned about sensory differences, including the three lesser-known senses: proprioception, interoception and vestibular sense, as well as health conditions linked to autism such as fibromyalgia, PMDD, POTS, endometriosis and connective tissue conditions.

The session also encouraged reflection on how our brains work and how South Asian social and cultural norms can sometimes create additional challenges for autistic people.

Sofia’s explanations in Urdu made the session simple, relatable and accessible to everyone. 🌸

We look forward to welcoming Sofia back for our next session! πŸ’œ

Supporting Couple Carers πŸ’œ

On 18 August, our Bengali Group at NKS welcomed Stella from the University of Edinburgh for an important research discussion on couple carers.

The session explored the challenges faced when both partners provide care for each other, the impact on their physical and emotional wellbeing, and how early prevention and support can help reduce further deterioration in both partners’ health.

A valuable opportunity to share experiences, raise awareness and explore ways to better support couple carers in our community. 🌿

🎡 Wednesday Group – Music and Dementia 🎡

Today, our Wednesday Group enjoyed a wonderful session exploring the benefits of music for people living with dementia.

We discussed the importance of music in supporting memory, emotional well-being, and social connection. Participants worked together to create personalised playlists featuring meaningful and familiar songs from their past.

The session highlighted how music therapy can be an enjoyable, non-drug approach that helps reduce anxiety, improve mood, and encourage communication. Through reminiscence activities, participants shared memories and stories linked to special songs and life experiences.

The group also created a special playlist, choosing songs that reminded them of different moments in their lives and the happy times they have shared at NKS. These songs sparked conversations, laughter, and fond memories, helping everyone reflect on their experiences and connections with one another.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed singing along to well-known favourites, creating a fun, engaging, and positive atmosphere throughout the session.
Thank you to all who attended and made the session so special! πŸŽΆπŸ’™
