Training on land using surfskates is key to improving your surfing. You can spend hours in the water repeating the same mistakes without realizing it, creating bad habits and frustration without any real progress. This training modality corrects and builds your muscle memory so that you can then apply your new movements next time in the water. One of the objectives is to be able to make you learn to understand the basic principles of a correct technique so that later you can correct yourself after each wave and you can continue training with your surfskate whenever you have free time. It's really fun and it really makes you feel like surfing on asphalt. At The Surfskate Academy you get a training method that is based on the repetition and automation of all the movements necessary for good progression in your surfing. A session of surfskate training with a surf coach is equivalent to dozens of hours of surfing in the water. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced surfer, surfskate training is ideal for correcting bad habits, perfecting your technique, understanding the biomechanics of your body, increasing your confidence, improving your balance and opening your mind to be able to read the waves in different ways.

LOOKING DOWN is one of the most common mistakes I see on my coaching sessions.

When we look down the board takes control of our upper body and the “wiggle” happens.

When we look forward we are aware of how much we can do with our arms and shoulders and everything starts to makes sense.

Are you still looking down?

Starting over somewhere new!

Moving to the other side of the world, to a new continent, new country and speaking a new language wasn’t easy.

Finding my place was even harder!

Trying to learn new customs, new ways, and make new friends was tough.

I don’t really talk about it much. I know I lost part of who I was when I moved to Scotland. I’m only realising that now and trying to figure out who this version of me will become!

Surfing is my escape.
My safe place!

The waves, the water and the sound of the sea are something that will always ground me.

Surfing and being in the water gives me a clarity that I’ve never found anywhere else.

Do you have something or somewhere that makes you feel that way? 👇🏼

Why is technique so important?

Because that’s the only way to get the best out of your board.

You can have the ‘best’ board in the world, but if your technique isn’t up to scratch, it will never perform the way you expect.

Get the basics right and the board will work with you, not against you.

Is your technique solid?

When did you last learn something that scared you a little?

Because when you’re an adult, and you decide to learn something completely new, something that feels risky, that has a learning curve, that you think you could easily fail at and look ridiculous, and you push through that and come out the other side, that does something amazing to you.

We don’t just teach people to surfskate. We watch adults rediscover something about themselves they thought was gone.

Why don’t you take the step and book an online session with me instead of letting your own mind keep holding you back?

You won’t know what you’re capable of until you try!

If your surf coach dismisses this, I’ll bet they haven’t trained on one properly.

They’ve had a go, it felt weird, and they moved on. That’s not an assessment. That’s an opinion!!!

SurfSkate training translates perfectly to the water….when you know what you’re doing 😋

Have you been told surfskating won’t help your surfing? Tell me below, I want to hear it.

Book your video analysis; the link is in the bio! This is the exact fix we walk you through frame by frame.

You’ve been told to check your front foot mid-turn your whole riding life, but no one told you it’s capping your carve.

Remember that your board follows your eyes, not your feet.

Try this tip in your next session: pick a point ahead of you, past the turn, not on the board. Let your eyes lead, and you’ll see that everything else catches up.

People sometimes do this for years without knowing it and think their turns just “weren’t deep enough” for their level. It really isn’t that, though; they’ve just been looking in the wrong place the whole time.

Tell us the cue that finally clicked for your own carve? Drop it below 👇🏼 and give us a wee follow if you want more of these breakdowns.

People think that you must do one to be able to do the other 💁🏼‍♀️

That’s completely untrue and might even be holding people back from starting.

You don’t even have to like the ocean to like surfskating (just ask my wife!) 😅

My biggest advice is: don’t get caught up in the name.

Surfskate and surf don’t have to go hand in hand.

You can do just one or do both…whatever floats your boat!

Don’t hold yourself back by getting in your own head about whether you’ll be able to surfskate if you’ve never been on a board before.

Give it a go and see if you love it 😊

Drop a wee comment below and let me know if you do both or just one?
