Basil Paterson College Welcome to Basil Paterson College, the oldest English language school in Edinburgh.

An intensive English language school, offering a range of courses to suit both adults and young learners. Accredited by the British Council and a Member of English UK, English UK Scotland and Education UK. Basil Paterson College has a reputation as one of the UK's leading language schools. We pride ourselves on our capacity to deliver a variety of intensive language courses to suit both adults and young learners of any ability. We believe that exploring the culture of a country is essential to a student's understanding of its language. At Basil Paterson, we synthesise the teaching of English with a comprehensive cultural programme in order to give students the opportunity to develop their linguistic skills through the joys of cultural exchange. The programmes for adults (17 and older), available all year round, are designed for general English communication skills, professional and academic purposes with the option of preparation for Cambridge and IELTS examinations. We also offer language courses for teenagers aged 13 - 17 years old during the summer. Our programmes exemplify our philosophy that learning English should be part of a cultural immersion that is aided by engaging teachers who structure and support the process. Basil Paterson College is a member of English UK and is accredited by the British Council.
