🚨 URGENT APPEAL — PLEASE HELP US KEEP 20 YOUNG PEOPLE AT EQUILEARN🐴💜

We urgently need your help.

Due to an error by the City of Edinburgh Council, completely outside of our control, funding for 20 vulnerable young people to access Edinburgh EquiLearn CIC has unexpectedly been withdrawn.

The Council has told us that they value the work we do, but unfortunately they are unable to resolve the situation. And now, sadly, it is the young people who are facing the consequences.

Their sessions begin just next week thanks to the support we have 7 out of 20 starting next Tuesday and Thursday 💫🥰

This leaves the 13 who have already been told they are coming to EquiLearn. They’re excited. They’re looking forward to meeting the horses, spending time with them and taking part in a programme designed to support their confidence, resilience, emotional regulation and self-esteem.
We don't want to have to tell them they can't come.

Edinburgh EquiLearn CIC is a small not-for-profit providing horse-assisted learning and wellbeing support to young people. Around 80% of the services we provide are completely free, but we simply don't have the resources to absorb the cost of these 20 placements.

We are applying for grant funding as well as working with Edinburgh council to try and come up with a solution but unfortunately that process can take several months and these young people need their support now.

💜 sponsor one young person for a 6-week block.

£70 could mean a young person keeps their place at EquiLearn, works with our horses, builds their confidence and receives the support they have already been promised.

🐴 Can you/your business help?

You could sponsor one young person, several young people, or contribute towards our overall £2,800 appeal.

Your support could make the difference between a young person being able to attend or being told that their place can no longer go ahead.

And as a thank you, business sponsors will be recognised across our newsletters and social media, with logos featured on our website, banners and advertising. Sponsors will also receive a free pony meet-and-greet session voucher. 🐴💚

If you can help, please donate or share our appeal:

Even if you can't donate, sharing this post could help us reach someone who can.

With sincere thanks,

A little ask from us at EquiLearn 💚🐴

We’ve had a few people ask how they can support EquiLearn, so we wanted to share a couple of ways you can help.

We have an Amazon Wish List with things we genuinely need and use, but you can also choose to sponsor a child’s place at EquiLearn.

💚 Donate a Session

You can sponsor a child for one session, or cover their place for a whole month. It’s a simple way to give a young person the opportunity to come along, spend time with the horses, learn, build confidence and just have a space where they can be themselves.

🐴 Sponsor one session: https://square.link/u/TQtKRMhL
💚 Sponsor a month: https://square.link/u/DjIuQm2O
🛒 Amazon Wish List: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/TZWFALE5N21L?ref_=wl_share

We know not everyone is in a position to donate, and there is absolutely no pressure. Sharing this post or our links helps too and means they can reach someone who might be able to support us.

Every session sponsored and every item gifted makes a genuine difference to EquiLearn and the young people who come through our gates.
Thank you for being part of what we’re building.

🐴💤 Did you know horses can sleep standing up AND lying down?

Horses have an amazing ability to doze while standing, thanks to a special system in their legs called the “stay apparatus.”
It allows them to relax without collapsing!

but horses don’t spend all their sleep on their feet. 🛏️🐎 They also need to lie down for deeper sleep, including REM sleep.

So if you spot a horse snoozing on its feet, it may simply be having a little nap and if you see one stretched out in the field, don’t panic it could just be enjoying a proper deep sleep! 😴

📈 Our referrals are at a record high — up 64% compared with this time last year.

It’s a figure we’re incredibly proud of, because it means more people are finding EquiLearn and recognising the difference our animals, our team and our approach can make.

But it also brings a very real challenge.

💚 More than half of the places we currently provide are completely FREE of charge.

We believe passionately that finances shouldn’t be the reason someone misses out on the support they need. But providing these places comes at a significant cost.

Our wonderful animals are at the heart of everything we do, and their feed, bedding, veterinary care, farrier visits, insurance, facilities and day to day welfare all have to be funded - regardless of whether the person accessing our service is paying for their place.

With referrals now 64% higher than this time last year, we want to say YES to more people who need us.

So, we’re on a mission. 🐴💚

We’re looking for new grant opportunities, fundraising ideas, partnerships and ways of generating additional income so that we can offer even more fully funded places without compromising the exceptional care our animals deserve.

And this is where we’d love our community to get involved.

✨ Could you donate to help fund a place?
✨ Could your workplace or business support or sponsor us?
✨ Do you know of a grant or funding opportunity we should explore?
✨ Have you got a brilliant fundraising idea?
✨ Could you organise a fundraiser for EquiLearn?
✨ Or, perhaps most simply, could you share this post and help our story reach the right person?

Sometimes one introduction, one idea, one share or one donation can open a door we didn’t even know was there.

The demand for EquiLearn has never been greater. Now we want to make sure our ability to help can grow with it.

Throw your ideas at us. Share our cause. Get involved. Donate if you can. 💚

Together, we can help make sure that needing financial support never has to mean missing out on a place at EquiLearn.

🐴 Booking & Funding at Edinburgh EquiLearn
We’ve had lots of questions recently about session costs and funding, so here’s a quick overview.

We work hard to keep our sessions as affordable as possible and never want cost to be a barrier to a young person accessing our support.

Pay as you go: £25 per session

Block booking: £20 per session

We also have partially and fully funded placements available at various points throughout the year. These are limited and tend to fill very quickly. Eligibility criteria apply to fully funded placements.

We are also an approved City of Edinburgh Council provider, meaning schools may be able to fund a placement with us through the Council’s Oracle system.

Funding varies between schools and cannot be guaranteed.

If you’re unsure which option might be right for your child or young person, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help. 🐴💚
