This past week at EquiLearn our groups have been exploring desensitisation workshops with our wonderful herd. 🐴

The aim of these sessions isn't to scare or overwhelm the horses. Instead, it's about discovering whether there are any sights, sounds, or objects that they may feel unsure about and then helping them work through those feelings in a calm, positive, and supportive way.

Desensitisation can help build confidence, strengthen trust, and improve communication between horses and handlers. It's all about giving horses the opportunity to investigate new experiences at their own pace and learn that they are safe.

We're proud to report that our amazing herd was completely unphased by everything we introduced! From start to finish, they approached each challenge with curiosity, confidence, and their usual steady nature. 🌟

A huge well done to all our participants for their thoughtful handling and observation skills throughout the workshops. It's been fantastic to see everyone learning together and building their understanding of equine behaviour.

Hamish is looking for a sharer🩵☁️

Perfect under 5s pony based in Edinburgh. Craigcrook Road. Easily accessible by public transport.

Hamish is a lovely mini Shetland perfect lead rein pony for tiny tots or would suit someone who would just like to spend some time with a pony on the ground/take part in in hand showing.

He’s been to shows, mini xc, out on hacks and always behaved impeccably so there would be the opportunity to get him out and about.

My daughter has sadly outgrown him and he loves the fuss and attention so could do with another little one loving on him a few days a week!

Horse experienced parent preferred, small financial contribution.

❗️EQUINE FLU ❗️

There has been a rise in cases of Equine
Flu in Scotland so we’d like to gently remind anyone that comes to EquiLearn who may also attend riding lessons or visit other horses that they must not do so in the same day.
If it’s unavoidable please thoroughly wash your hands, change clothes and shoes.

We have numerous young and elderly horses and ponies on the yard who are most susceptible to the virus.

Thank you for helping us keep our herd safe 🦠

Today in our Hoofs2Hope programme we had a wonderfully creative, art filled day 🎨🐴

We began by helping the horses create their very own artwork, giving everyone the chance to explore creativity in a fun and interactive way and it was a great enrichment activity for the horses too!

We then moved into a fantastic workshop with Crissi, where participants used ink to experiment with different artistic techniques while carefully observing the horses.

Starting with a stationary horse allowed us to slow down, focus on detail, and build confidence before progressing to the more challenging task of capturing the horses moving freely in the field.

It was amazing to see how observation, creativity, and connection with the horses came together throughout the session.

A beautiful day of mindfulness, expression, learning, and equine connection 💛

There’s something quietly powerful about the way nature connects us all 🌿☀️

We spent time grooming Hamish, leaving soft piles of his hair scattered around a ready made gift for any passing bird looking to build a nest. The crows had other ideas though 🤣

Instead of taking what was already there they hopped right up and gently plucked the hair straight from his back!

And Hamish? Calm, patient, completely unbothered.

It’s a reminder that nature doesn’t just coexist,it collaborates. Every creature plays a role big and small plays a role!
