It’s when people spend a lot of time reading, or scrolling through a mobile phone or computer screen to read negative news or stories.

If you do doomscrolling, don’t feel bad because you’re not alone. Research shows that more than 75% of adults have engaged in doomscrolling.

The term “doomscrolling” gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, though the behavior itself has existed for as long as bad news has been accessible through the media.

Psychologists link it to humans’ negativity bias - our brains are wired to scan for threats - combined with infinite feeds designed by social media platforms to keep us watching, even when it hurts.

📌What do you usually do when you catch yourself doomscrolling?

a. I immediately put my phone down and take a break.
b. I keep scrolling anyway, even though I feel worse.
c. I switch to watching funny or uplifting content.
d. I tell myself “just five more minutes”- but end up scrolling for an hour.
