There’s something truly magical about watching children’s ideas come to life through real tools and natural materials. 🪵✨

In our woodwork space, our young makers have been busy designing and creating everything from a fierce dragon to a brilliant bus—all inspired by their own imaginations.

As a Froebelian nursery, we believe children learn best through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Woodwork nurtures creativity, problem-solving, perseverance and confidence, while giving children the freedom to express their unique ideas and take pride in what they create.

Every hammer tap, careful measure and finished masterpiece tells a story of curiosity, capability and joyful learning. 💚

🏆🌱 Exciting News from Arbor Green! 🌱🏆

We are delighted to share that Arbor Green Nursery has been recognised as one of the winners in the 2026 Pocket Garden Design Competition organised by Keep Scotland Beautiful, receiving the 2026 Food for People Theme Award for our Pocket Garden project.

This achievement reflects the creativity, enthusiasm and hard work of our wonderful Eco Team, who are passionate about teaching children the importance of sustainability, biodiversity and caring for our environment. Through meaningful, hands-on experiences, they help instil lifelong values and environmental awareness from an early age.

✨ Space Development in Our Baby Room ✨

We have been enhancing our baby room to create inviting spaces that encourage exploration, curiosity, and a sense of belonging. From cosy reading corners and sensory experiences to natural resources and multicultural displays, every space has been carefully designed to support children’s learning and development through play.

By providing rich, engaging environments, we encourage babies to investigate, discover, communicate, and grow in confidence every day. 💛

What a beautiful day we had at our annual Clothes & Book Swap on Saturday! ☀️

With sunshine, coffee, cake, happy chatter and good vibes all round, it was wonderful to see so many families coming together to support one another and enjoy our nursery community. The children by even got involved by helping to water the plants 🌱 - a lovely reminder of how special these shared moments can be.

This fantastic event was completely organised and run by our wonderful parent community, and we are so grateful for the time, energy and care that went into making it such a success. By swapping and reusing clothes and books, families also helped support sustainability and reduce waste — showing how small community actions can make a big difference. ♻️❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, swapped, baked, volunteered and came along to support. Events like this really help create such a warm and connected community feeling.

We’re also delighted to share that the event raised an amazing £228 for Stepping Stones North Edinburgh — a wonderful local charity supporting young parents and their families through advice, learning opportunities and community support.

We are incredibly proud of our amazing Eco-Leaders, Leon and Viktoria, at Arbor Green Nursery 🌿💚

This year, we proudly nominated both Leon and Viktoria for the Eco-Coordinator of the Year Award in recognition of the passion, dedication and positive impact they bring to our nursery community every single day.

Although they were not selected as the winning nomination this time, the feedback we received truly reflects the difference they make:

“Unfortunately your nomination was not the winning one this time but the judges did comment that Viktoria and Leon were truly committed, inspiring and nurturing Eco-Coordinators who in an innovative and creative way were transforming the setting and the wider community.

The nursery should be very proud of Viktoria and Leon and their work and we look forward to reading about more fantastic actions in future applications.”

We could not agree more. Leon and Viktoria continuously inspire both the children and wider community through their creativity, commitment and passion for sustainability. From encouraging eco-friendly habits to leading meaningful environmental initiatives, the impact they make every day is something truly special.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated and supported us in raising an amazing £1,112 for Maggie’s Centres 🤍

On Sunday, Nikkie, Abby and Aimee took on an abseiling challenge in loving memory of our dear friend and former colleague, Julie — our “Muma Julz” 🤍

As scary as the challenge was, it reminded us that it’s nothing compared to the fear, heartbreak and challenges families face when supporting a loved one through illness or loss. That’s why we wanted to do something meaningful to help continue the incredible support they provide to so many families during difficult times.

We are beyond grateful for every donation, message, share and word of encouragement. Your kindness means so much, and we know Julie would be so proud 🤍

Thank you to all of our families who joined us for our Outdoor Learning Coffee Morning 🌿☕

It was wonderful to share the importance of outdoor learning and explore the open-ended opportunities and experiences we provide for our children. Families enjoyed looking at our tuft tray displays and learning how these link to Froebel principles, Care Inspectorate guidance, Realising the Ambition and Curriculum for Excellence. 🌱✨

A special well done to our amazing staff member Abby, who delivered a fantastic talk on outdoor learning as part of her BA Childhood Practice university work 👏💚

Each week, some of our children enjoy visiting the local care home to take part in intergenerational experiences with the residents. During this visit, they explored a Froebelian occupation through a simple sewing activity, carefully threading wool through pre-punched shapes alongside their older friends.

These meaningful sessions support the development of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration, while also helping children build confidence, patience and a strong sense of belonging within their wider community. It is always lovely to see the relationships that grow through these shared experiences across generations 💛

Such a beautiful time of year here at Arbor Green Nursery as the blossom begins to appear and the daffodils brighten our garden 🌸🌼

Our Eco-School children have been busy exploring Easter the eco-friendly way with an experience lead by our wonderful Educator Luca. Using red onion skins, we created natural dyes to decorate our eggs, leaving beautiful petal prints and patterns while learning how we can reduce waste and reuse natural materials 🌿🥚

The children loved being involved in every step — from exploring the garden to watching the colours develop — a lovely hands-on way to celebrate the season while caring for our environment 💚
