😍👉 Rag Bag Fundraiser👈😍

The PTA and Parent Council have a big fundraising target of £14,000 to replenish non-fiction library and core reading books for pupils at Dean Park. We don’t receive Council funding for the library books and so support to reach this target is very much appreciated.

If you have had a clear out of any unwanted clothes during half term, you could help raise money!

Please drop any bags of clothes to the school office from 23rd - 26th February as we have arranged a Rag Bag collection for Friday 27th February.

Items we can accept are:

⭐️ Paired shoes
⭐️ Belts
⭐️ Handbags

👉 We are reaching out to address ongoing concerns from parents regarding unsafe parking around our school. The situation is particularly concerning during morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. Parents have observed several situations where cars have parked or manoeuvred in ways that have posed significant risks to children. We understand that drop-off and pick-up can be rushed and stressful, but our priority is to ensure that every child arrives and leaves school safely.

If a parent does witness any unsafe driving or parking behaviour, we urge them to inform the school and report the matter to the Community Police, and our local councillors. Their contact details are below:

👉Mobile Phones in School Parent/Carer Survey by Edinburgh Council.👈

“The Scottish Government published Guidance on mobile phones in schools in August 2024.

Many schools introduced restrictions to mobile phone use during the school day. The detail of these restrictions can vary from school to school. Mobile phone use in primary schools is not permitted following a decision by the Education, Children and Families Committee in 2025.

The Education, Children and Families Committee is considering banning or restricting phone use in all schools. The council is also considering lockable pouches to support restrictions on mobile phone use in secondary schools, and lockable cabinets in primary schools.

We know that not everyone feels the same way about this and we would like to know what you think. We are also asking pupils and school staff and for their views. All the feedback you share will help the council reach a decision.

The closing date to complete the form is Monday 02 March 2026.”

The new Digital Safety Parent Focus group met recently. One of their aims is to signpost parents to support and information about keeping their children digitally safe, and the parents digitally savvy. Here are some tips on setting up parental controls on devices.
