Delivering RYA Helmsman, Competent Crew, Powerboat & First Aid courses across Scotland.

Professional, approachable training that builds real-world confidence. Together with Birmingham & Midland Marine Services Ltd, we offer RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman, RYA Powerboat Schemes and RYA First Aid courses. RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman courses take place on the Staffs & Worcester Canal out of Gailey Wharf, Staffs. We use a 12.2m narrow-beam workboat, with a maximum of 3 students per course. Courses can be booked closed, or students can choose to join an open course. Being a workboat, we offer courses primarily to the commercial sector, but private students are also welcome. Find out more about the course here: https://www.rya.org.uk/training/inland-waterways

RYA Powerboat Schemes courses include the RYA Powerboat Level 1 and RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses. The courses are run on the ornamental lake on the prestigious Chillington Hall Estate, Staffordshire. . The lake itself was designed by none other than Capability Brown. The Powerboat courses are designed to cater for a wide range of individuals with a minimum age of 12, although those wishing to gain commercial endorsements must be aged 17 or over. Please check out the RYA course details on their website here: https://www.rya.org.uk/training/professional-qualifications/powerboat-level-2

RYA First Aid courses are run at Birmingham and Midland Marines Services Ltd's Training Centre at Gailey Wharf. This is a 1-day course with the emphasis placed on being able to deliver First Aid in the often challenging marine environment. ๐Ÿšค Why Should Narrowboat Owners Achieve the RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman Certificate?

Owning a narrowboat is all about freedom and adventure โ€” but with that freedom comes responsibility. So, what are the real benefits of earning your RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman Certificate?

โœ… Confidence & Competence โ€“ Learn to handle your boat safely and efficiently in all conditions โ€” from locks and moorings to tight turns and tricky manoeuvres.

โœ… Safety First โ€“ Gain the essential skills to protect yourself, your passengers, and other waterway users.

โœ… Insurance & Hire Advantages โ€“ Many insurers and hire companies recognise the RYA certificate, offering better rates or requiring it for certain vessels.

โœ… Stress-Free Cruising โ€“ With the right knowledge and hands-on training, your time on the water becomes smoother, safer, and more enjoyable.

โœ… Nationally Recognised Qualification โ€“ The RYA Helmsman Certificate is a respected benchmark of competence on UK inland waterways.

At Training Enterprises Scotland, our qualified instructors work in conjunction with recognised RYA Training Centres โ€” including Soliton Training in Edinburgh and Birmingham & Midland Marine Services Ltd in Staffordshire โ€” to deliver training for those who need to achieve this valuable certification.
