Learning about plants should be hands-on, curious, and fun 🌿✨

We loved working with Year 3 on this beautiful plant press during our Plant & Botany Workshop! Instead of just talking about plants, we zoom in, explore details, and help children discover how to identify different plant families.

From learning how plants are grouped to creating their very own plant press for future collections, it’s all about sparking curiosity and building real-world skills 🌼

🌿 “The best way for children to grow is by exploring, playing, and connecting with the natural world.”

At Forest Buds, we see this every day. When children spend time outdoors, something special happens ✨

They climb, build, imagine, problem-solve and grow in confidence — all while surrounded by nature.

Outdoor play isn’t just fun. It supports:
🌱 creativity
🌱 resilience
🌱 wellbeing
🌱 independence

And most importantly… it helps children develop a lifelong love for the natural world.

✨ How beautiful do these nature weaves look?

Using a simple willow frame and string, the children created their own little pieces of spring. Carefully weaving in tiny treasures they found along the way — choosing thoughtfully and remembering to leave plenty for nature too. 🌱

A lovely reminder that creativity doesn’t need much… just curiosity, imagination, and the wonders of the outdoors.

We found this hollow log in our woodland today and couldn’t resist turning it into a little planter 🌿🌸

Nature always gives us the best materials to create with. The children loved filling it with soil and adding some spring colour to our forest school space.

But now we’re curious…

If you found a hollow log in the woods, what would you turn it into? 🤔
A planter? A fairy house? A bug hotel?

We embraced the ever-changing weather — cold mornings, driving rain, and winds.
The children who came well prepared moved through it all with confidence, while those who felt the chill found their comfort beside the fire, their warm and faithful friend. 🔥🌦️

Woodchip pathways = safer, drier Forest School sessions while protecting the woodland and boosting biodiversity.

Huge thanks to the amazing GoodGym volunteers who did the hard graft 💪🌳

Preparing wood for cheese toasties at our after-school club 🔥🪵

We love giving children real, hands-on responsibilities — like safely splitting their own firewood using our child-friendly wood splitter. It’s amazing to see the confidence grow as they realise, “I can do this myself.”

At our forest school sessions, we focus on practical skills, independence, and building resilience — all while preparing tasty treats over the fire.

Simple tools. Real skills. Big confidence.
