WTBA The World Taiji Boxing Association

WTBA The World Taiji Boxing Association The World Taiji Boxing Association, official home to the Erle Montaigue fighting/healing system We have a number of Country Representatives around the world.

The WTBA is an organisation of like minds from all over the world coming together in friendship and harmony (well most times). Erle Montaigue began the Australian Taiji Boxing Association back in 1979. It soon became clear that the organisation had outgrown the 'Australian' part so we changed it to the World Taiji Boxing Association, WTBA. Erle Montaigue handed it down to his son Eli, in 2010, jus

t before his sudden death in 2011, having trained with Erle from the age of 4. These are students and friends who have trained with Erle and Eli for many years and have risen to a high level of competence in Erle's system of Internal Gung-fu. We now have representatives in around 30 countries with well over 10,000 students being in some way associated with the WTBA. There is no real hierarchy in the WTBA as this is how Erle Montaigue liked it, plain and simple without titles or bowing down to anyone, just a bunch of friends training together with a like goal of harmony and good health, and along the way some self defence to protect our family. The WTBA has no uniforms or any other patches or other lofty names like 'Sensei' or Master or Loucher etc. We are simply here to help each other up the ladder. However, we do have some items of WTBA clothing in the way of T shirts and Jumpers with the WTBA logo embroidered or screened. You can join the WTBA as a Member, just fill out the form. To become a WTBA instructor however, takes a little more training and assessment.

WTBA Taiji Combat Camp 2026!

What a great week of training it was. With people travelling in from all over Europe and even Canada. We trained in Taiji Boxing, grappling and ground fighting. No major injuries accrued 🙂 Most people who train Taiji do not know how to fight, since they don’t train fighting. Often they think doing drills and push hands is fighting, but put them in this week of training and they will soon realise the difference between drilling and fighting!

Thanks to all those who attended and a special thanks to my wife Fran for cooking all week for the 9 guests we had staying.

A great deal of respect should be had for MMA fighters, they get in the ring and prove what they know works. However, it’s also important to note that many techniques are made redundant when you remove the rules. Erle Montaigue was famous for not following the crowd and always breaking the rules.
