Have you ever had one of those moments at work where you’ve thought, “That was close!”? 😬
Nobody was hurt, nothing was damaged and everyone carried on. Even when nobody gets hurt, it's still a reportable issue.
It's known as a 'near miss'.
Near misses can be easy to brush aside, but they’re really useful early warnings.
A trailing cable that someone has to step over, something falling but narrowly missing a person, or a spill being spotted just before somebody slips can all highlight where changes may be needed.
We should be able to identify where things can go badly wrong way before they actually do and a near miss report can help us to risk assess and re-organise to make a safer environment.
Reporting a near miss isn’t about blame or creating paperwork for the sake of it. It’s about noticing patterns, having open conversations & dealing with smaller risks before they have bigger consequences.
At any place of work, you should understand why safe working practices matter and feel confident enough to speak up when something doesn’t seem right.

From medics to event security! 🙌
Lucy and Nathan came to us ready for a new challenge.
After gaining their licences, they’re now working on the frontline as security, enjoying every bit of their new experience & the fact that no two shifts are ever the same!
Nathan says “I moved from medical work into security because I wanted a new challenge. I love that every shift is different and that I’m right there on the ground, helping to deal with situations as they happen. My medical skills still come in useful too, so it feels like I’ve brought the best of both roles together.”
