What your child’s teacher wishes you knew about reading at home 👀

I’m opening just 10 spaces for a practical Phonics & Reading at Home workshop at Avara Outdoor Classroom, Dunton.

I’ll share the things teachers actually want parents to know like how to help when your child gets stuck, what to do with the reading book & diary, simple playful phonics ideas, and what Year 1 parents need to know about the Phonics Screening Check.

Monday 14th September · 12–2pm · £25

Resources pack & refreshments included.

Parents, carers or grandparents who regularly help with reading are all very welcome.

Home educating this September? Come and try Avara for free 🌱

Avara Outdoor Classroom offers small-group maths and literacy taught through meaningful, hands-on learning in nature, led by a qualified and experienced primary teacher.

This half term, we'll be harvesting the fruits growing at Dunton Community Garden and using them to inspire real maths, literacy, investigations and cooking. 🍏🫐🍒🍐

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to Avara's end of season party 🥳

It was so heartwarming to celebrate with the people who have supported me from Avara's beginning, including the Dunton Community Garden trustees who put their faith in me to take great care of the garden and use it to teach the next generation of gardeners and explorers, the amazing volunteers who make the garden so special, the villagers who stop to say hello when I'm packing away or working on the plot, and of course all the Avara families who have formed the most wonderful community together and have been cheering me on 🥰

You have all had a role in making my dream come true ✨

Seeing children explore, discover, and learn so freely has made every bit of hard work worthwhile.

💧🌱 Can your child solve our watering problem?

Our vegetable garden is getting thirsty, and tomorrow our Home Education group has an important mission...

Working together, we'll design and build an irrigation system to transport water from the water butt all the way to our vegetable beds using bamboo channels, guttering, crates and planks.

Along the way we'll be exploring engineering, maths, literacy, teamwork and problem-solving through real, meaningful learning in nature.
