✈️ Another Tiger Moth conversion student has taken to the skies solo! Congratulations, James!

After several busy days of multiple training flights, James has completed his first solo in the Tiger Moth. He described the experience as 'Pure joy' and we couldn't agree more. A little different from the heavy metal he flies for his day job, but it sounds like he's getting to grips with vintage flying nicely!

✈️ You never know who you might spot at the controls of one of our Tiger Moths!

Last weekend, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, Chief of the Defence Staff, renewed his SEP rating with us.

Following a couple of refresher flights with Mike W, Rich was ready for his proficiency check with examiner Mike D — and we're pleased to report he passed!

✈️ Meet the winner of the 2026 Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Flying Scholarship - Maisey Greenhow

The Coachmakers Aerospace Awards Committee said 'The award to Maisey Greenhow was made amongst a genuinely very high quality set of applicants this year and the Coachmakers are very proud to welcome Maisey into our group of alumni who we enjoy supporting and working with into and beyond their early careers. We are all very pleased to be part of seeing Maisey developing her flying, her personal and her professional skills as part of this wonderful scholarship programme.”

Maisey said 'First of all, a massive thank you to the Coachmakers for this incredible opportunity! I still feel like I’m pinching myself that I’ve been selected as the winner of the 2026 Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Flying Scholarship. I’ve always had a huge passion for aviation and have dreamed of becoming a pilot for as long as I can remember. To now have the opportunity to earn my PPL in such a historic aircraft as the de Havilland Tiger Moth is something I feel incredibly lucky and honoured to be able to do”. “I’m really looking forward to getting started with Cambridge Flying Group and making the most of this incredible experience!'

✈️ Saturday saw us welcoming the shortlisted applicants for the 2026 Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Scholarship to CFG for their interviews and trial flights. We thoroughly enjoy meeting the applicants each year and love seeing past winners come to support the day, helping with ground crew duties and sharing their experiences with our guests.

✈️ Introducing the next generation of pilots!

It was lovely to see 2025 Coachmakers Scholarship winner Emma Wood introducing the next generation to our Tiger Moth IZ during The Goodwood Revival.

It looks like Charlotte rather enjoyed her experience in the cockpit, and we’re hoping it’s the start of a lifelong love of vintage aviation!

Perhaps one day we’ll welcome her back to IZ, this time to take to the skies and fly with us. 💙

✈️ IZ and the team are safely home after a fantastic weekend at The Goodwood Revival!

We loved seeing everyone embrace the period dress theme, and these photos offer a glimpse of some of the outfits our team chose for the occasion.

Sadly, the glad rags are now packed away until next time, and it’s back to regular flying gear once more!

✈️ After a couple years of poor weather and failed attempts to reach Goodwood for The Goodwood Revival, we've managed to get IZ and the crew there for this weekend.

Despite the weather's best attempts to foil plans John and Angus safely landed yesterday evening, ready for the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation launch party 🥂

✈️ Last Saturday, our Treasurer Ian Caulfield took on the rather challenging task of completing his PPL Skills Test during the Vintage Aircraft Club fly-in — with over 90 visiting aircraft to contend with and plenty of cameras on hand to capture every landing!

We’re delighted to announce that examiner Dodge Bailey gave Ian the all-important PASS! 🎉

That makes Ian one of the lucky few who can say they completed their PPL in a Tiger Moth — quite the way to earn your licence!

Yesterday saw CFG members and friends head over to Wattisham for Families Day and Sam's second public flying display. With no grass runway available at Wattisham, the Tiger Moth operated from nearby Elmsett, conveniently located within the Wattisham MATZ.

After the display, the group flew on to Main Hall Farm where they were joined by a few more aircraft, before heading to a local pub for dinner. With seven aircraft dropping into the farm strip, it certainly looked busy!

Days like these are what flying is all about – exploring new places, visiting exciting events, and sharing the adventure with friends.
