This week we have been exploring celebrations around the world, looking at Diwali - the festival of lights, and talking about how we celebrate different events.

We are now closed for half term and we will be welcoming our children back on Tuesday 1st November 2022.

Have a wonderful half term, and please upload photographs and videos to Tapestry where possible of things you get up to over the week. This will provide us with some fantastic communication opportunities to share with your children when we return to nursery.

Please also keep an eye out for some activity ideas we have shared with you on Tapestry.

Here at Best BEST Nursery & Extended Services - Langford, our practitioners work hard to ensure that British Values are promoted and woven throughout every child's time at nursery.
The Fundamental British Values are democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance.
We strive to create an environment that includes, values and respects different faiths, cultures, views and ethnicities.
Our practitioners help children to learn about other faiths, cultures, traditions, families, communities and ways of life and to be curious and appreciative. We encourage children to share their own experiences and respond to the experiences of others. We provide opportunities for our children to learn about festivals and special days, different types of family units and different occupations as part of our curriculum.

This week we are providing opportunities to learn about and explore Diwali, the festival of lights, and looking at how people celebrate around the world. Today the children have been looking at Rangoli patterns, which also provides amazing opportunities for exploring shape and colour; and also providing opportunities for our children to be creative!

This week we have been playing with light and dark to create magical experiences that both adults and children enjoyed, as a follow on from our space topic last week. Light and darkness hold fascination and intrigue, as well as an element of risk and challenge. Experiences involving light and shadow enable children to appreciate the awe and wonder of the world around them and provide a rich environment in which to develop their natural curiosity. Such opportunities allow adults and children to engage in sustained shared thinking and to develop relationships where joys and fears are open for discussion.

Our story of the week has been "A Tale of Two Feathers", introducing the children to nocturnal animals; and in conjunction with this we have been sahring our Owl Babies story sack with the children. We have been busy matching objects to their shadows, exploring and making our own shadows, playing with different coloured lights and seeing how we can mix them. We have extended our thinking by looking at how light and dark affects the growth of plants (which we will continue as our seeds grow).

As a result of our discussions with the children this week, we set up a beach small world tuff tray as some of the children talked about going to the beach in the sun.

And in keeping with the season, we have been making pumpkin soup in the mud kitchen!

Next week we will be developing our light and dark exploration further by exploring Diwali, the festival of lights.๐ŸŽ†

Space Topic

This week we have busy adventuring into outer space! We have been learning about the Sun and the Moon and the difference between night and day, talking about our moon and the planets in our solar system. Our story of the week has been "Back down to Earth with a bump" and we had a go at making our own planets for our display board. There have been lots of fun activities on offer this week for us including a solar system tuff tray, galactic paint printing, fishing for stars, and small world play on the moon! We also really enjoyed our Yoga in Space activity ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ›ฐ

Next week our topic is Light and Dark.

Autumn Topic

This week we have been very busy explorers, and I think we have explored everything there is to possibly explore about Autumn. We collected leaves, and autumnal materials on our Autumn walk, and we explored the autumn treasures that were collected by our children and their families. We added bugs to our leaf pile in the garden, and used our leaves for leaf printing. We loved getting messy and playing with the squashes in the gloop, conducting experiments with pin cones, making autumn tea in the mud kitchen, making fabulous conker rolling works of art, and we kicked off this term's numeracy curriculum by colour sorting in an Autumnal fashion! And furthermore, we welcomed the arrival of our brand new Interactive Smart Board, which was very exciting for all!

Next week we will be learning all about Space and all things interactive in line with National Space Week which begins Tuesday 4th October.

29/09/2022

Date for your diary! The photographer will also be taking some Christmas photographs during the session, so be sure to get your appointment booked! Next week we will be taking bookings for children who are not attending on the day.

29/09/2022

Our Autumn Investigation Table created using the items the children found on their Autumn exploration walk this morning. This provides us with fantastic communication opportunities to share with our children.

Can you tell me what you found?

Why are the leaves not green?

What colours and patterns can you see?

How do the different things feel?

This week in nursery we have been busy learning about and exploring harvest. We have explored fruits and vegetables, and have been learning about where our food comes from. We enjoyed fruit tasting, and playing in the outdoor farm shop. Some of our experiences this week have also included sensory tuff trays, and gardening play. And to finish off our busy week, Jo Jingles will be taking us to the farm this week as part of her Magic Train Ride series of music and movement for this half term.

Hot weather update ๐ŸŒž

The Met Office has issued a red extreme heat warning for areas of England on Monday 18 July and Tuesday 19 July, including parts of the East Midlands, East of England, London & South East England, North West England, South West England and Yorkshire & Humber. The red warning indicates an exceptional hot spell of weather leading to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.

The Met Office has also extended the amber extreme heat warning for Monday and Tuesday to cover parts of South West England, West Wales, North West England and southern Scotland. An amber extreme heat warning continues to be in place for parts of England on Sunday 17 July.

We will be remaining open and fully operational. We are very fortunate to benefit from a fully air conditioned building, and will be having lots of indoor fun during the heatwave.

Please remember to send your child with a named water bottle, sun hat and sun cream. As well as plenty of spare clothing as we love to play in the water in the warmer weather.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Run! run! As fast as you can..................You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!!

This week we have been looking at one of our favourite stories.

The children have enjoyed listening and acting the story using the
puppet theatre and characters on the tuff tray.

Some of the older children were able to retell the story to the younger children.
Continuing on from the story, The children have been performing a science experiment, The Swimming Gingerbread Man. This enabled the children to make predictions as to whether the gingerbread man would sink or float, what they thought may happen to the gingerbread man in the story and what words they could use to describe what has happened to him in the end.
All in all, the children have had a fantastic time this week and we are looking forward to seeing you all next week.

The children enjoyed "Hunt the Gingerbread Man" outside in the garden.
We have made gingerbread playdough, which the children loved.
The children explored the language of size, talking about big, medium and tiny!
The children have been playing a maths game where the children had to match the amount of buttons to the number of the baking tray.

15/07/2022

Due to the hot temperatures next week the school is only able to provide packed lunches on Monday and Tuesday for those parent who have opted for their child to have hot school meals at Nursery.

This weeks topic has been SUMMER!!๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒธ

Wow!! What a busy week we have had..................๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„
The children have learning about the weather this week, talking about why the sun is so hot and how we can keep healthy in the warm weather. We have talked about our skin and why we need to apply sun cream, wear our hats and stay out of the midday sun. We have talked about why it is important to keep hydrated and drinking plenty of water ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿซ—๐Ÿซ—throughout the day.
The children have sat and made some beautiful sun catchers ๐ŸŒž using tissue paper. This links into physical development and fine motor skills which in turn helps our children to develop their pencil grip and develop their writing skills.
We have been looking at the life cycle of sunflowers and keeping track of our homegrown sunflowers ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒป in our raised planter using numicon blocks to measure how much they have been growing. Alongside this we have provided yellow playdough so that the children can manipulate it to make sunflowers using real life pictures to base their flowers on.
We have played with dinosaurs and our own volcano. Talking about the language of size and the ๐Ÿฆ–๐Ÿฆ•dinosaurs being the same but different, a bit like ourselves really.
We have enjoyed learning and playing with our bugs and mini beasts too!! ๐Ÿชฐ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿž๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ›๐Ÿ•ท

This week has seen us unveiled our newest purchase to the children.
With the help of some of the funds from our "๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒนGrow our Garden๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒท" campaign, we have managed to purchase a beautiful cascading water play set. This has proved extremely popular with all of the children and it has also bought some welcome relief to the warm weather we have had this week.
We would like to say "Thank you" to everyone who has supported us with our campaign so far! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’

This leads me on to ask that ALL children' clothes, hats and water bottles are labelled please. We have a number of children that have very similar clothes and bottles and these being named will help prevent confusion.
Could we also ask parents to apply sun cream to their child before they come into nursery and a reminder to provide a named bottle of sun cream so that we can reapply as necessary.

Next week our topic is.......Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Have a wonderful weekend!

Today we welcomed the delivery of our long awaited mud kitchen!

We cannot wait to get stuck in and engage in pretend and messy play by cooking with mud, sand, and water. The mud kitchen will help us develop fine motor skills, roleplay, exploration, and social skills.
