Volunteers are needed for a harvest of sweet potatoes this weekend!

Sweet patooties! We have a sweet potato harvest at Creek Shore Farms and a regular potato harvest for this weekend. Here's the scoop: If you've ever dreamed of riding the back of a harvester, this is your chance. You can also follow the harvester if you prefer, to pick up the taters that get missed. All volunteers go home with as many potatoes as they can carry and a Thanksgiving vegetable basket to say thank you.

Sweet potatoes are on deck first, with harvest starting at 5 p.m. on Friday so meet at the farm at 4:45.

Potatoes happen at 8 a.m. Saturday, meeting at the farm at 7:45. This is where most of the help will be needed. There will be refreshments on hand to keep you hydrated and helpers will be fed a chilli lunch, too. The harvest is expected to wrap up midday.

So if you're in, let us know. Creek Shore Farms donates 15 per cent of their harvests to Community Care and we're always happy to help them meet that goal.

Attention Councilors.

We're presenting at BUSAC tonight to ask you to work with us. To see all the positive work that this project has done and will do. We're asking that you not seek to defund The Affordable Food Project that has only had funding for 11 months. We spent our first year setting down roots and growing, don't cut down the tree before you give it a chance to bear fruit.

We don't want a food fight. We want to break bread.

We've put together information that you'll find helpful for tonight's BUSAC Meeting. You can find our budget, information on our building, service statistics, applications to join our board and committees, along with general information about all our services at www.FeedBrock.org/BUSU

Any questions you send us we will try to answer as quickly as possible and add the information to the page.

Fed Up The Affordable Food Project is looking to support students who have children. Eating healthy is already really hard for students and the additional stresses that go into feeding and taking care of children as you go through school yourself are daunting. Please reshare :)

For more information check out www.FeedBrock.org/Parents - Brock University

We don’t make baby food ourselves for liability reasons, but we are working to find other ways to support students at Brock who are also parents.

We now provide one-on-one and small group lessons in the kitchen to students who would like instructions on how to make food for young children. We also lend out and sometimes give away kitchen gear and equipment, which could include helpful things like small blenders to make baby food at home. We’re also happy to extend our free birthday cake program to the children of students. We can also purchase and deliver baby food and other supplies for student parents through our grocery delivery program.

If you’d like to get a one-on-one lesson from one of our chefs, or if you have a suggestion on how we can support parents at Brock email us at [email protected].
