Introducing Ana - She is currently covering for Dominika as the new Campus Leader!

Learn more about her by reading through her interview answers below:

What is one of your hidden talents?

They’re not hidden, just not part of my professional performance. – I crochet, I paint, I photograph – that’s it!

If you were an animal, which one would you be, and why?

I would be a flying monkey. I remember when I was a kid I used to watch The Wizard of Oz (cartoons), I remember Dorothy meeting the flying monkeys, and they were mischievous but then they ended up helping her. Since then I’ve been in love with flying monkeys.

If you won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, what would you do instead?

The first thing that comes to mind is travel the world, but, I would continue teaching just for fun! Teaching while traveling!

What makes a ‘good day’ at school?

When teachers are able to help students with their needs, students are learning, and aware of their learning! That’s a very good day at school.

What accomplishment fills you with pride so far this year?

I finally made it to the Intermediate level group in Tennis after 5 years at the beginner level!

What’s the best thing about being a teacher?

Helping students achieve their goals and seeing them use those achievements to advance either in their school work or careers.

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

Learn how to use Excel, and learn another language! You’ll need this in almost any job – wherever you stand!

1 cup of rice, per 1 cup of water!

Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?

Oh, not really! Live and let live!

Meet the Teacher is back for the month of May! Introducing the Campus Leader (currently on maternity leave) - Dominika!

Dominika started part-time with Summit in 2016 and transitioned to full-time work in 2019! Find her interview answers below to learn more:

Q: What is one of your hidden talents?
A: I am an avid reader and have been known to read a book in a day (if I have the time).

Q: If you were an animal, which one would you be, and why?
A: I would be an owl because they get to fly and they’re seen as wise (which would make my bookworm heart happy). I also love foxes.

Q: If you won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, what would you do instead?
A: I don’t think I would give up working completely. I would definitely take time off to travel and explore the world – I think going to new places opens your mind and helps spark creativity and growth. Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and I would not want to give that up!

Q: What makes a ‘good day’ at school?
A: A good day for me is having students have “lightbulb” moments. When students are stuck on a concept and then you see that moment of recognition/understanding on their faces. That’s a good day! Also, we have a pretty amazing team here at Summit, so it’s a great day when the team is here supporting each other and having fun!

Q: What accomplishment fills you with pride so far this year?
A: Seeing one of our students who came in with some big challenges and roadblocks overcoming those and being successful in their program! Feeling so proud of their perseverance and determination to keep going! Also, working two jobs while growing a human!

Q: What’s the best thing about being a teacher?
A: Having students come to you towards the end of their program and be amazed at how much they’ve learned and how far they’ve come.

Q: If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
A: Don’t give up on yourself! There are always staff around to help you through any concept you might be struggling with. Practice is the key!

Q: Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?
A: “Behind every student who believes in themselves, is a teacher who believed in them first” this one definitely resonates with the teacher in me!
