Here are some things for guardians to consider before sending their teens out for the evening:
🥳 Promote the idea of having a Party Partner - someone that they can trust to be responsible for one another!
👀 Encourage your teen to keep an eye on their drink and to never accept drinks from someone they don't know
🚧 Discuss consent - knowing and respecting their own boundaries as well as the boundaries of others is important
😵 Remind teens about the dangers of mixing substances! Getting sick could end their Prom night in a hurry
🍹 Consider adding mocktails to your teens festivities!


BEFORE the party, talk to your teen and make a safety plan. Here are some things you can discuss.

Strategies for using refusal skills;
✋Just say no, confidently and firmly
✋Be prepared to repeat yourself if necessary “No thanks, I’m good”
✋Suggest an alternative substance free activity
✋Leave the situation
✋Give a reason why you don’t want to “No thanks, I’ve got asthma and va**ng will just make my lungs worse”
✋Give an excuse “No thanks, I’ve got practice early tomorrow”
