Let me be very clear - there’s no one ‘right’ way to breathe.

It depends on the singer.

It depends on the phrase you’re tackling.

It depends on the style of music you’re singing.

It depends on how much technique you’ve built.

That’s why 1:1 lessons are so FUN! Not every voice lesson looks identical. 😍

People often assume voice lessons are about a teacher having all the answers. Don’t we wish!!!

In reality, the best teaching often starts with questions.

Every singer arrives with a different voice, different experiences, different habits, different goals, and a different way of learning.

And…

There is no single exercise, cue, or technique that works for everyone. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤯💥

So instead of forcing singers into a cookie cuttermethod, let’s get curious.

We experiment.

We observe.

We make tiny adjustments.

We gather information.

We celebrate what works and move on from what doesn’t.

Sometimes our lessons feel a little like a science lab! 🧪

Exploration gives students agency. And it builds trust in not just the relationship with the tescher, but with their own voice 💛✨

The goal isn’t to create singers who sound the same because !!!! The goal is to help each singer discover what works for THEIR voice.

I love digging into the nitty gritty technical and stylistic elements of a song!! This singer came to me feeling a bit off balance (like she was running out of air / having trouble with managing it through these longer phrases), and we used some fun resonance tools to help her achieve her desired sound!! 🤩

This is EXACTLY the kind of work I love getting into, coming from a classically trained lyric soprano turned pop songstress. I spent YEARS in the classical industry, and while I learned so much (and love singing art song!) I realized it wasn’t what I wanted to sing.
