Brazil: Parents face 50 days in prison for home-schooling their daughters
Brazilian parents Audato and Ieda Denardi have been sentenced to 50 days in prison for home-schooling their daughters, in what could be a test case for thousands of Brazilian families who are also home-schooling, despite an unclear legal framework for doing so.

Human Trafficking Starts With Trust — Not Abduction. Talk. Listen. Protect.
🚨 Protecting Our Children: Human Trafficking Awareness for Parents
The Niagara Region is a beautiful place to raise a family—but like many border and tourism communities, it is also a region where police and community agencies continue to investigate human trafficking.
Traffickers do not usually begin with kidnapping. They begin with trust, attention, gifts, friendship, romance, or promises of opportunity. Every parent can reduce risk by staying informed.
Signs to Watch For
🔹 A sudden secretive online life or multiple social media accounts.
🔹 An older friend or romantic partner who avoids meeting the family.
🔹 Expensive gifts, cash, clothing, phones, or rides that cannot be explained.
🔹 Sudden changes in behaviour, friends, or routines.
🔹 Excessive time spent online, particularly late at night.
🔹 Unexplained hotel visits or frequent trips.
🔹 Withdrawal from family, favourite activities, or long-time friends.
🔹 Increased anxiety, depression, or fear of checking messages.
Practical Ways to Reduce Risk
✔ Know the apps your child uses—and use them together.
✔ Keep communication open. Children are far more likely to tell you about uncomfortable situations if they know they won't immediately get into trouble.
✔ Teach children that no adult should ask them to keep secrets from their parents.
✔ Be cautious of online gaming, messaging apps, and social media where strangers can gradually build relationships.
✔ Encourage children to trust their instincts. If something feels "off," they should leave and tell a trusted adult.
✔ Know where your children are, who they're with, and how they'll get home.
✔ Teach children that genuine opportunities—modelling, acting, employment, scholarships, sponsorships—can always be verified with another trusted adult.
Most Importantly
Human trafficking can affect any family.
It is not about income, parenting style, neighbourhood, or school. Traffickers look for vulnerability, loneliness, conflict, curiosity, or simply an opportunity to gain someone's trust.
The strongest protection is a relationship where a child knows:
❤️ "No matter what happens, I can always come home. I won't lose my family's love by telling the truth."
Let's continue building a community where every child knows they are valued, supported, and never alone.

It is good practice to always question our WHYs.
I am always keeping tabs on everything I expect children to do as part of our routine.
Here are the questions I constantly ask myself:
Who is this for?
Do I need to direct this OR will it happen organically, WITHOUT me leading, if I am patient?
Who does this empower?
Who needs to be empowered?
Is this worthy of a child's time?
Am I listening to the children?
