Ultraprocessed foods linked to cancer and early death, studies find
Eating a lot of ultraprocessed foods significantly increases men's risk of colorectal cancer and can lead to heart disease and early death in both men and women, according to two new, large-scale studies of people in the United States and Italy published Wednesday in British medical journal The BMJ.

Recipe for deliciousness!
I shared this with Amanda, Studio Manager at Lost 'n Found Yoga earlier today. Based on her reaction, I figure this needs to go further!
In honour of our abundance in Niagara Region- tomatoes š
!
In a rectangular container with a lid, fill the bottom layer with nice chunks of pink onion.
Sprinkle on some blueberry balsamic from Della Terra Fresh Olive Oil & Balsamic Tasting Bar.
Cut nice thick slices of local tomatoes and chop some fresh basil.
Place first the tomatoes and then the basil on top of the onion.
Make 1 layer if you can make it fit, otherwise, do 2, alternating the tomatoes and basil.
Of course, more of that yummy balsamic -like a tablespoon or so each time-a nice sprinkle- and then the proverbial ācherryā.
Either crumble or slice goat cheese, plain white, or regular feta on top of it all!
Refrigerate an hour and then take out about 20 minutes before serving.
Toss into your green salad, eat on pita chip or just snarf it with a fork, straight from the container. It keeps a few days, though it shouldnāt last that longš
Mmm- .
If you make it, post a picture!

Majadra- just like it sounds. Lentils, rice, caramelised onions, cumin, basil and cilantro. Enjoy as a side dish, or on its own with some feta cheese and little salad. Heaven and health in a bowlš

Hummus 101. Hummus is an Arabic word meaning chickpea.
2 great recipes-
Soak 1 cup of dried chickpeas in about 3 inches of water for about 12 hours, changing water once if possible.
Drain and put in a large pot with water and add a dash of baking soda. Bring to a boil, strain off the foam, and cook slowly for about an hour.
Drain most of the water and mash using only a basic potato masher- leave chunks-and donāt make it too smooth- you arenāt brushing your teeth with it!
Put in 2 bowls and have some fun.
Savoury ideas- garlic, parsley, lemon juice, salt, cumin, sautƩed mushrooms, jalapeƱo balsamic, touch of basil infused olive oil- anything else in fridge or pantry that you might enjoy.
Sweet- chopped green apple, maple syrup and cinnamon, whole cranberries and ginger- any combination of fruit, sweet and spice.
Healthy, delicious and authentic and guaranteed to !

Thought for the day. There were likely no food additives or chemicals in The Garden of Eden-just an abundance of natureās finest(and 1 problematic apple). Hmm..

We all make lifestyle choices and some of them we even stick to. Mine right now are almost daily yoga practices, healthy sleep practices, making and creating connections, and following the lifestyle choice of The Mediterranean diet, most of the time.
As a retired teacher, cook and former restaurant owner, I have decided to spend my dotage by sharing my knowledge, skills and passions and helping you be your best you, at least as far as what you put in your tummy goes.
I offer 4 week courses, offered weekly at various times, where we will learn, cook, and eat in my relatively well equipped kitchen-enjoying the principles and food of the Mediterranean diet, using what is available locally and what we like to eat, and by making it easy, fun and reproducible.
Presently, I offer small groups (3-6 participants) on Tuesdays and Thursday from 6;30-8;30 (dinner), Friday from noon to 2 (lunch) and Best Kids Ever Cook- Saturdays 11-1. All classes make 3 courses, enough to fill your tummy and take home leftovers. Recipes and whatever video you make goes home with you as well. The price is $160.00, all in- and is payable at time of registration.
Upcoming monthly themes are Tour of the Mediterranean, Harvest Feast, BRR,Itās Getting Chilly and Holiday Magic.

Feast on some recent pix-food and me cooking them!
And the last word for now-a couple of local businesses that I support are also supporting me-please do the same. The Promistery Organic Farms and Della Terra Olive Oils and Balsamics are good people and are part of most of what I do-check them out!
