Okotoks Karate At Okotoks Karate we teach small classes of Goju-Ryu Karate. All classes are taught by Sensei Steve Vinden who has over 35 years in Martial Arts.

rienced karate-ka. We focus on building strength and stamina while focusing on good technique. We have broken down the classes to cater to children, families and adults. Class times will be used learning not only about the physical aspects of karate but encompassing the history of Karate, the spirit of Karate, Self Defense and even the Japanese language. We have dedicated 12 classes per week and will arrange special training sessions and seminars with local, national and international Martial Artists. The goal of Okotoks Karate is to spread the wisdom and insight of the Martial Arts while working within our community to make it a better place to live. We have managed to keep student fees low and the quality high with fees as low as $50 per month. There are no contracts to sign and we run outdoor classes during the summer when weather permits. Classes are small, fun and informative. Come try a class for free!

It's finally here!
I've been buying keikogi for a few decades now and getting them altered to almost fit me, and this is the first one I've had custom made for me and right here in Canada.
I spend 30+ hours a week teaching and training and it'll be great to wear this 14oz heavyweight brushed cotton keikogi.
It was such a wonderful experience Daryoush Jahangir meeting Daryoush Jahangir and his wonderful wife Mona when I went out to Ontario last month.
If you need a custom keikogi or any gi, obi or even custom certificates for your dojo they're definitely worth reaching out to! They are great to work with. Kind, knowledgeable and truly respected for not only their great products but as people as well.

Day one of grading is over, only 4 more hours to go until we see who has been successful at achieving Shodan (first level blackbelt).
These students did an amazing job on their first day of physical grading but there was so much more to do before that even happened.
At Okotoks Karate, candidates must be 16 years of age, assist in teaching classes, teach ten classes by themselves, perform volunteering, write a 1500 word essay, attend at least 2 classes per week and on average put 6 years of training in before being accepted for testing.
We want to help build a better, kinder, more confident community. We want to build a student that is looked up to and respected, a student who shows and earns respect inside and outside of the dojo.
We do things differently at Okotoks Karate and thats OK, because we are OK, everything is OK 🥋🙏🤛

A busy an productive weekend!
Shirt sales are going well!
Cut off for orders is Wednesday 13th May for the RAINBOW SHIRTS we have plenty of our normal dragon and phoenix shirts in stock and ready to fly off the shelves!
We had a couple smaller gradings with the 5-9 year olds!
Took some of the leadership team out for Sushi and today I'm preparing for a l***r grading May 23rd for our 10+ yellow, orange and green belts (kyukyu, hachikyu, nanakyu, rokkyu, gokyu and yonkyu)
In Okotoks everything is OK! OK is everything and OK is Okotoks Karate!
