Teentastic Families God's Way I work with parents and their teens transition from anger or anxiety to trust & healthy communication

A conversation with someone made me remember why house rules are important. House rules gives teens an understanding of what is expected of them, gives them a feeling of safety if they are feeling anxious, gives them reference of what to tell their friends they have over and it avoids preferential treatment in the house - as long as you stick to them!!!

Topic: Decision making skills

As a parent, one of the hardest things to do is to let go and let your teens make mistakes. 🄓 The trick is to let them make decisions on small, unimportant issues first.ļæ¼ Also, it is a good idea to walk through the process of decision making with them. Discuss what might happen if they decide one way, and what will be the consequences, good or bad if they decide the other way. āš–ļø By looking at the consequences they will get for each action, it will help them make the best decision.

You can do it parents!! 😃

Every day tell your Teens that you love them and are proud of them. Even if it’s a hard day you love them, right? You might not love what they did or said, but you love them! Find something to be proud of them for, even if it is for not giving up on living.

People don’t care how much you know until they find out how much you care

Topic: chores
Should my teen be doing chores?
Answer: definitely!!!

Chores should be started before the teen years, but if you have never implemented them, you can start anytime. Tell them you are preparing them for adulthood! Everyone should know how to clean a bathroom, kitchen, clean out dishwasher, make supper (or at least help), take out the garbage, mow the grass. Everyone needs to learn the discipline of keeping a house clean.

Studies show that teens/ kids who do chores regularly overall have more confidence, are better students, and have better mental health. The feeling of accomplishment is therapeutic.

Maybe you yourself were never taught! We’ll, here’s what you do: make a list of all the chores, then make columns of the weeks of the month. Put each teen/child in a square. For 1 week, that is the teen’s chore. Rotate your teens through the different chores. Saturday is chore day. No one gets their allowance or leaves the house for fun until his/her chores are done!

You can do this!!

Welcome to Teentastic Families!!

As a parent of teens, we have all had some great highs but also some great lows.

I and my husband worked with troubled teens for 4 years collaborating with social workers, therapists, and parents for a healthy transition home for the teen. We have been Youth group leaders in our local church for over a decade and have interacted with a lot of teens and their parents. We have also raised our own 3 teens to become healthy, happy, contributing adults. Were we perfect? No!!!!!! Did we sometimes feel like we were losing our minds? Definitely!!!

None of us are perfect parents, we just are trying to do our best!

Please join me as we try to do our best together! Community is so important! I look forward to our time together!
