The second that school bell rang on the last day, something shifted in the air. ☀️
You could feel it before you even got outside. The whole building felt different. Lighter. Like it had been holding its breath for nine months and finally just let go. You walked out those doors with your backpack half empty and your desk cleaned out and a summer stretching out in front of you so long and so full that you could not even see the end of it. And that was exactly the point.
The rules of summer were simple. Chores first. Make your bed, pick up your room, do what was asked of you. And then the day was yours. All of it. The whole long golden endless thing. You could ride your bike until your legs gave out. You could run through the sprinkler until the sun started going down. You could lay in the grass and watch the clouds and have absolutely nowhere to be and nobody waiting on you and that feeling, that specific freedom of a summer afternoon with nothing decided yet, was just about the best feeling in the whole world. 🌿
And then one day you woke up and August had arrived and suddenly you could feel the end of it coming and the whole thing got sweeter and a little bit sad at the same time. But on that last day of school, standing in that parking lot with the sun already hot on your shoulders? Summer was forever. And you believed it completely. ✨

12 years ago today was the "Remembering Hill Park" Open House and final Alumni Pub Night actually held IN the school. Memories still stay strong for so many Hill Park Rams, and your Alumni Association still hosts reunion Pub Nights every so often.
