Congratulations to Dr. Chris Myhr on being awarded the 2021 Prefix Prize in photography! The prize is presented by the Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art in partnership with the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival and Underline Studio, with the assistance of Partners in Art. Introducing Dr. Chris Myhr! Dr. Myhr is an interdisciplinary media artist whose research & creative practice engages with photography, the moving image, sound, and media installation. His work examines intersections of art, science, and ecology.

Dr. Mudavanhu’s academic accomplishments in digital storytelling, African media studies, and critical race and decolonial studies informed our screening of Beyoncé’s Black Is King with some great discussion of representation and framing politics.

Meet Dr. Faiza Hirji! Her primary interests are in the ways the media intersects with race, religion & gender. She has published work on Muslim & South Asian diasporas focusing on their media representation as well as the active reception and production by these groups.

Dr. Sara Bannerman will be presenting on the power relations embedded in communication, law and policy on March 17 at 11:30am.

Dr. Kehrer brought some great insight into our discussion of Beyoncé’s relationship with her LGBTQ2S+ fans through her academic background in ethno/musicology, q***r identity, and her previous research on bounce music in New Orleans.
