Early on in the year when we planned for our first annual art exhibition fundraiser, we brought specific art skills to students in Grades 5-8 and found that art breaks down divisions in a classroom between those with athletic abilities, academic strengths, and artistic inclinations. More importantly, it broke down barriers within students' own minds: suddenly they felt liberated to be all of these things at once. Each student created 3 pieces of art which will be on display to purchase. All proceeds will go directly to enhancing school programs.
We know that nothing compares to seeing students light up when they see their work displayed. The reward of watching parents, friends, family, and other faculty see each student in a new way will be worth all the extra hours.

Please note that artwork purchased cannot be removed on the day as we would like the gallery to remain in place for everyone to enjoy all the works of art. All sold artwork will be handed out on the next day. We look forward to welcoming everyone to this special event.

February is Black History Month: the celebration is an opportunity for our students to recognize the words of Prophet Muhammad that “All humans are descended from Adam and Eve, there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, or of a non-Arab over an Arab, and no superiority of a white person over a black person or of a black person over a white person, except on the basis of personal piety and righteousness.”

Inshallah during this month our nasheed group will be preparing a very special song “Colours of Islam” by Dawud Wharnsby and attend a lecture by Imam Yasin Dwyer on “The Story of Black Muslims Modern Day Myths and Realities”.

Islam emphasizes the importance of environmental consciousness, and so Project Green was created in an effort to increase the Hamilton Muslim community’s involvement in green initiatives. To date, PG raised enough funds to install three water bottle refill stations at Hamilton’s Mountain Mosque, promoted multiple “Waste-Free Ramadan” campaigns, and have held a successful tree planting event.
We are sharing with you pictures of our Grade 7 students picking up litter around the mosque and school and plucking weeds in an effort to plant trees this Sunday.
Future potential projects include school workshops, an eco-science fair, and milk bag weaving mats for developing countries.

Not too long ago, Ayah AlGhneimin and Mastura Larry, our current grade 8 students were given the project of painting a tree silhouette which they did beautifully, but our project did not end here. Students from grades 1-8 were given the task of searching for meaningful quotation by Muslim leaders around the world. These quotes were then printed and framed and are now hanging from our tree silhouette. A beautiful collaboration of team effort.

Mock Elections for I.S.H Students

As Canadians head to the polls to vote for the people who will represent their interests in the House of Commons, students at I.S.H, are provided with a unique opportunity to bring the democratic process to life.

Students in grades 4-8 got the chance to act as election workers and vote for official candidates running in the Flamborough district , using real voting materials.
