🚶We need to do more to keep everyone safe 🛴

At today's session of Council, I’m bringing forward a motion focused on the safe use of electric scooters in Hamilton.

Residents in Ward 7 and beyond have raised concerns about children and youth riding e-scooters below the minimum age requirement, unsafe riding, excessive speeds, scooters being used in prohibited areas, and conflicts with pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

E-scooters are an increasingly common form of transportation in our community, and we need to make sure they can be used safely.

Today's upcoming motion calls on the City to look at what more can be done through education, enforcement, and safety measures to protect everyone who uses our roads, sidewalks and public spaces.

We can support new forms of transportation while also making safety a priority. We need to do more to keep everyone safe. 🚲 🛴🚶

🚧In accordance with the Escarpment Access Closure Procedure (PW-P-026-003), please be advised of an upcoming planned lane occupancy of the Arkledun/Jolly Cut Escarpment Access to facilitate scheduled maintenance operations. 🚧

To maximize service delivery while minimizing impacts to the public, a partial lane occupancy will be utilized.

Scope of Work
• Trimming brush and overgrowth along the escarpment edge

Closure Details
• Closure Type: Partial Lane Occupancy (Curb Lane downbound)
• Dates: Oct 7th
• Time: 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. (overnight hours, outside of the peak morning commute)
• Location: Arkeldun Ave/Jolley Cut

Traffic Control
• Vehicles will be directed around the lane occupancy via arrow board and lane ending signage
• Downbound Traffic: the left lane will remain open for duration of work
• Upbound Traffic: not affected

⛪I was honoured to have been invited to recently help celebrate this church's happy milestone. ⛪

Cornerstone Canadian Reformed Church was established in Hamilton in 1951 as part of the Canadian Reformed Churches. The congregation grew over the years and moved to its current location on Ward 7's Stone Church Road in 1972.

Cornerstone is now a thriving place of worship with a joyful, passionate congregation who have also helped establish other churches and ministries in the Hamilton area.

Community presence has been an important part of its history, supporting local community initiatives promoting fellowship, and reaching out to the surrounding community.

📱 PHONE SCAMS ARE ON THE RISE — PLEASE BE ALERT 📱

I want to make residents aware of a recent warning from Hamilton Police about a telecommunications scam that is costing victims thousands of dollars and leaving them responsible for devices they no longer have.

Over the past week, Hamilton Police have received 10 reports, with some incidents involving multiple devices. Victims are typically losing between $1,200 and $1,500 — roughly the cost of a new smartphone.

In one recent case, a victim purchased seven phones, which were ultimately diverted to an unknown suspect.

HOW THE SCAM WORKS:
Scammers pose as representatives from telecommunications companies and convince victims to purchase or upgrade a device through their legitimate account. Once the device arrives, the victim is instructed to “return” it using directions provided by the scammer. The device is then intercepted or sent directly to the fraudster.

⚠️ Please protect yourself ⚠️

• Be cautious of unsolicited calls offering phone upgrades or account changes.

• Hang up and contact your provider directly using a verified phone number.

• Don’t rely on caller ID — scammers can make calls appear legitimate.

• Never hand a device to an unverified courier or ship it to a PO Box without confirming the return directly with your provider.

Stop. Verify. Protect yourself.

Please share this information with family, friends and neighbours, particularly anyone who may be less familiar with these types of scams.

🎽 **Tomorrow is Run for Hamilton!** 🏃‍♂️❤️

The annual Run for Hamilton is a personal favourite! This important event brings our community together in support of one of Hamilton’s most beloved causes.

📅 **DATE:** TOMORROW, Sunday, October 4, 2026 - starting at 11 a.m.
📍 **VENUE:** Ward 7’s beautiful T.B. McQuesten Park
👟 **WHO/WHAT:** Run for Hamilton, an all-ages event to walk, run, fundraise, and raise awareness for the vital healthcare provided through the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Center Foundation.

This event means so much to me because it celebrates an active and healthy living while also giving back to the families who rely on Juravinski’s essential services. **Cent for cent, the money raised goes directly to Juravinski.**

I encourage residents across Ward 7 and all of Hamilton to take part - and if you can’t register as a participant, not to worry, your enthusiastic cheers and support will bring care and energy to those running👏

What a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the older Hamiltonian adults who have helped shape our families, neighbourhoods, and communities.🍁

Our beloved Hamilton seniors are an important part of what makes our community strong - sharing their wisdom, experiences, time, talents, and stories with generations that follow.

Today, let’s take a moment to say thank you to our seniors! ❤️

Here are a couple of ways you can do so:
👋 Visit a senior, family member, friend, or neighbour.
📞 Make a phone call or video chat.
☕ Share a coffee or meal.
🤝 Check in on someone who may be feeling isolated.
