When a child is deeply engaged, step back — concentration is gold.
Concentration is the heart of Montessori. It’s the moment when executive functioning grows, independence strengthens, and confidence quietly blooms. When a child is absorbed in purposeful work, their brain is wiring itself for mastery — and our job is beautifully simple: protect that moment.
Don’t interrupt.
Don’t redirect.
Don’t “fix” their work.
Just hold space.
Concentration is development in action. When we honor it, we honor the child’s deepest work.
Want more Montessori guidance that’s practical, clear, and rooted in developmental science? Follow and share this with someone who needs the reminder to slow down and let the child focus.

Today's A Mighty Girl Community Pick: "Let's Talk About Body Boundaries, Consent, and Respect" by Jayneen Sanders. Even preschoolers can start learning about body boundaries and respect with the simple lessons in this empowering book! This child-friendly guide teaches kids that they have the right to control who touches their bodies and how, which helps them build confidence and bolsters their growing sense of self. Sanders introduces the idea of body boundaries or "body bubbles," and lets kids know that no one should enter their body boundary without permission. She then expands that discussion to how kids treat others, encouraging empathy as she teaches kids that other people's body bubbles deserve respect too.
Perfect for young kids starting school or heading back this fall, the colorful illustrations and simple language make this an easy, age-appropriate way to talk about these essential topics. The guide also includes discussion questions for parents and educators that highlight how they can use day-to-day moments to teach these important concepts. Highly recommended for ages 4 to 7.
"Let's Talk About Body Boundaries, Consent, and Respect" is available at https://www.amightygirl.com/body-boundaries
Sanders is also the author of another excellent picture book that explores topics such as personal body safety and safe and unsafe touch: "My Body! What I Say Goes!" for ages 3 to 7 at https://www.amightygirl.com/my-body
For older children, issues of body autonomy, boundaries, and consent are discussed in the excellent "Consent (for Kids!)" for ages 6 to 10 at https://www.amightygirl.com/consent-for-kids
There is also a helpful guide for teens on topics such as consent and setting boundaries: "Real Talk About S*x and Consent: What Every Teen Needs to Know," for ages 13 and up at https://www.amightygirl.com/real-talk-about-sex-and-consent

💡 Parenting isn’t about getting it right all the time. 🤍 It’s about slowing down, being mindful of our words, and responding in ways that teach and connect rather than shame.
The words we repeat to our children can eventually become the words they say to themselves. Let’s help make that inner voice kind, confident, encouraging, and full of compassion. 🤗
