It's that time of year! Our classrooms have received our caterpillars to nurture and care for over the next few weeks as they witness the transformation into butterflies!

Be sure to check out the progress during drop offs and pick ups to see what stage the caterpillars are at! They are located on the classroom cubbies.

CATERPILLAR UPDATE

After a week of observing, wondering, and caring for our caterpillars, the children are now witnessing the chrysalis stage of the butterfly life cycle. This stage sparks so much curiosity as we discuss the changes happening inside and imagine what the butterflies will look like when they emerge.

Through close observation, documentation, and meaningful conversations, the children are developing a deeper understanding of growth, change, and the wonders of nature. We can't wait to see what happens next!

A wonderful morning of connection, collaboration, and shared learning.

We were grateful to welcome an educator from Bolinha de Gude in Brazil, along with a fellow educator from Simcoe, to Graystone Children's Early Learning Academy. Through meaningful conversations rooted in the Reggio Emilia philosophy, we exchanged ideas, experiences, and perspectives that inspired us all.

Thank you for choosing Graystone as part of your visit. It was a pleasure to learn alongside you, and our doors are always open for future collaborations.

BUTTERFLY UPDATE!

What an exciting milestone in our butterfly journey! One of our butterflies has successfully emerged from its chrysalis, and after allowing its wings time to dry and strengthen, it has been enjoying fresh oranges as it prepares for its next adventure.

This morning, we gathered together outside during our morning assembly to witness a very special moment—the butterfly's release into the wild. The children watched with wonder and excitement as it spread its wings and took flight, beginning the next stage of its life cycle.

Experiences like these provide meaningful opportunities for children to connect with nature, observe transformation firsthand, and develop a deeper appreciation for the living world around them. Wishing our butterfly safe travels!

IN THE ATELIER: Mass-Produced Image
Inspired by the Artist: Andy Warhol

Inspired by the work of artist Andy Warhol, our preschoolers explored the beauty of colour, repetition, and creative expression. Using a black-and-white fish image as their canvas, each child created a unique interpretation with paint markers, watercolours, and markers. While every artwork reflected an individual perspective, one child became especially captivated by the movement and blending of watercolour, following their own curiosity through the process.

In the atelier, we also investigated the fascinating relationship between coloured water and oil. Using droppers, the children carefully combined the materials, observing how they interacted, separated, and transformed. This open-ended invitation encouraged scientific thinking, experimentation, and meaningful conversations as children formed theories and discovered new possibilities.

At the heart of the Reggio Emilia approach is the belief that children are capable researchers, using materials as a language to express ideas, ask questions, and make sense of the world around them.

Summer has arrived, and we're making the most of these warm days with water play!

Once a week, each classroom heads outdoors to enjoy a variety of water-based experiences designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and joyful learning. From running through the sprinkler to discovering sensory bins, creating imaginative recipes in the mud kitchen, and engaging with other open-ended water provocations, children are invited to explore at their own pace.

These experiences support sensory development, collaboration, problem-solving, and imaginative play while providing a fun way to stay cool during the summer months. There is nothing quite like the laughter, curiosity, and excitement that fills our playground on water play days!
