Proud to announce that Dr. Leili Tafaghodi has been named Stelco Chair in Sustainable Steel Production!
Dr. Tafaghodi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and she is affiliated with McMaster Steel Research Centre. She is working in the areas of sustainable production and refining of metals and alloys as well as recycling and waste management in metals and minerals industries. Both research topics are critical to achieve a circular economy and meeting UN Sustainable Development Goals. Her current primary research interest lies in the decarbonization of the iron and steel industry, with a focus on using hydrogen to replace fossil fuel. Congratulations, Dr. Tafaghodi! ๐

Our warmest congratulations to Mahmoud Diab, supervised by Professor Wilkinson, who successfully defended his master thesis titled "Finite Element Analysis of Bending in Advanced High Strength Steel ( )".

We're most excited and proud to share the amazing accomplishments of our PhD Candidate Ali Zakeri from Dr. Tafaghodi's group on being awarded Best Student Presentation in Pyrometallurgy at the Conference of Metallurgists ( ), for his presentation titled "Hydrogen-Based Direct Reduction of Industrial Pellets: and Studies"!
In addition, Ali was also awarded the MetSoc Doctoral Student Scholarship! The purpose of the is to encourage and support the attainment of educational goals by doctoral students who have demonstrated a high level of research achievement at a Canadian university.
Congratulations Ali, we're proud to count you among our PhD students, cheers to you on the amazing work and achievement!
