We’re proud to share that we've received funding to support 75 steel and manufacturing workers and jobseekers in the Hamilton area through our Skills Pathways for Work project. This project helps participants build the skills and confidence they need to move forward in today’s changing job market with

For many, technology can feel like a fast moving world we’re not quite part of. Yet staying connected to family, friends, and trustworthy information has never been more important.

I’m thrilled to be partnering with Glanbrook Community Services - Binbrook to offer a beginner‑friendly digital literacy series designed specifically for older adults who want to build digital confidence and learn practical, everyday online skills.

Over four Tuesdays, participants will learn at a comfortable pace, ask questions, and explore digital tools that make life easier and help us stay connected:

As a huge fan and longtime patron of the Hamilton Public Library, I’m proud to be partnering with them to deliver a talk on October 6 focused on online safety in the age of AI. Registration is open for this free, beginner‑friendly session at HPL’s Dundas Branch: https://events.hpl.ca/event/17053334

I bring experience working with older adults at all stages of technology adoption, and the two questions I’m asked most often are: “Can you explain AI in simple, practical terms?” and “How do I stay safe online?”

This talk combines both topics in a clear, accessible way designed to build confidence, not overwhelm. I look forward to meeting you, answering your questions, and connecting on this important and timely subject.

🧰 Learning Connections Hamilton (LCH) and the Hamilton Steelworkers Area Council are supporting the steel industry with the Skills Pathways for Work initiative!

If you've been laid off from the steel industry, or have experience in the industry and are seeking employment, Skills Pathways for Work can help.

We'll work with you to
- identify the skills and training you need to succeed, including digital skills
- build an individualized plan
- connect with programs and help you stay on track

Eligibility
🔹 18+ and a resident of Ontario
🔹 legally able to work in Canada
🔹 laid off from the steel industry (some exceptions apply)
🔹 on Employment Insurance (EI)
🔹 not in full-time education/training

As part of this program, we're working with the Hamilton Literacy Council to offer free Digital Skills training for program participants! The next course starts in November.
