A new McMaster innovation could reshape how silicone is used in medical implants and devices.
Led by Chem Eng PhD candidate Norma Garza Flores, an interdisciplinary research team developed a new silicone material that resists clotting and reduces the body’s foreign body response while maintaining the flexibility and strength surgeons value in medical-grade silicone.
A collab between Mac Eng and Health Sci, the team achieved this by chemically bonding the polymer directly to the silicone network, rather than applying a surface coating.

As our feeds are filled with videos and images of flooding in the Muskoka's, Sudbury and other cities across Ontario, we got to wondering: what role can engineers play in the future of flood prevention?
We caught up with Paulin Coulibaly in Civil Engineering, to shed light on why these floods are happening, what can be done to mitigate their threat, and to explain how his project, FloodNet, is helping.
