📖 A project schedule tells a story. A delay analysis proves it.

When things go sideways, “we were delayed” isn’t enough. You need to answer questions like:
- What actually drove the critical path?
- When did the delay occur - and why?
- Is it excusable / compensable / concurrent?
- What method will hold up under scrutiny?

Our Forensic Schedule Delay Analysis LIVE course is built for professionals who need defensible analysis rather than theory and buzzwords. You’ll work through real-world thinking, methods, and case-style application so you can speak the language of claims, entitlement, and impact with confidence.

If you want to stop guessing and start analyzing, register for the next cohort!

😡 Ever open P6 and think: “Who touched my layout?”

You’re not crazy! P6 layouts can disappear (or look “reset”) for a few simple reasons. Here’s the fastest recovery checklist:

1. View → Layout → Open
2. Look for your saved layout name (this is why naming matters)
3. Confirm you’re in the right database / environment (it happens more than people admit)

If you never saved it, you’ll need to rebuild it. That’s the lesson: if it matters, save it. If it REALLY matters, export it.

If you want more P6 fixes like this (baselines, calendars, % complete, filters, XER imports), our P6 Foundations course is built for real project schedulers.

🤔 One step to delay analysis is understanding your progress. How do you track progress?

Actual progress is comprised of three components:
Actual start date.
Actual finish date.
Reduction in remaining information.

A good practice is to create a "Progress Only" schedule. Open your schedule from the previous month, input these three components for the period you're analyzing. Then you'll discover the progress delay for that period.

There is much to discover when it comes to delays analysis. Plan Academy is excited to demystify the process by offering a 2-week online course starting September 14th. Learn about the intricacies of delays, claims and contemporaneous period analysis.

👀 Do you need help with Primavera P6 baselines?

Baselines are significant in Primavera P6, as they preserve schedules throughout the planning process. However, the procedure can introduce daunting questions:

❓When should I create a baseline❓
You can create a baseline after finalizing and approving the schedule. Then the baseline can be used to compare current performance against the original plan.

❓How do I assign a baseline❓
There are four types of baselines: Project Baseline, Primary User Baseline, Secondary User Baseline, and Tertiary User Baseline. Go to Project -> Maintain Baselines. Create or copy the schedule as a baseline. Go to Project -> Assign Baselines. Assign the baseline under Project Baseline. You can only assign four at once.

❗️Preserve baseline history❗️
To keep your process clean and to prevent slow performance, you may overwrite outdated versions. Don't do this!! You will be unable to present or compare data. Export baselines as an XER file.
