Take regular sparring. Add one restriction. Keep it for three matches. Adapt. Redraw.
The idea isn’t just to make sparring different or more fun — although everyone had a blast with it.
Restrictions take away some of the things you normally rely on. Your favourite technique. Your preferred hand. Your usual movement. Sometimes even the way you normally attack.
When you can’t fall back on your usual habits, you have to find another answer.
That’s where the training is.
You start solving different problems, using techniques you might normally ignore, and developing better timing, control and adaptability.
We used more than 40 different restrictions for this.
