Northumberland Homeschool Club

A new school year has begun! And things are definitely different around here. We are expecting twins in the new year, so the homeschooling club has been put on hold for the time being, and one of my children has flown the homeschooling nest and decided to go to public school. It’s very bitter sweet. I know that I won’t be able to provide him with the social outlets he needs once these babies arrive, but it’s surreal having him gone every day.

On the bright side, the rest of us get to enjoy quiet moments in public places again! Like our recent trip to - they even had a fun riddle for us to solve! Can you figure it out?!

It’s been a hot minute! But we’ve been so busy having fun and going on adventures! I can’t believe it’s the last week of July already. 🥹

Catching toads, checking out different plants, looking for fish in the creek and fighting off 37291293 mosquitos! All in a days work!

Fresh baked cookies and a cuppa tea really hit the spot during our rain day last week!

With the recent crummy weather and air quality we’ve been spending time at the - shooting hoops and climbing their indoor play ground! The kids are loving the change of scenery but I’m DYING for +20 and some sunshine!

We’re already on summer break around here! Time to hit up all the fun public places while the weather is nice and before schools let out for the year!
Anyone else doing the same?!

This week we foraged dandelions and wild garlic! We dug a garden! We fed grubs and worms chickens! We played with chickens! We ran as fast as we could! We made dandelion root coffee! We used big boy tools! We had so much fun in the sun!

Our KinderClub decoded a secret message yesterday, using alphabet flash cards. They loved it, and think skunks are pretty rad now…but not as pets!

No theme to this week’s shenanigans! My daughter worked hard to set up her mud kitchen now that the nice weather is here - and everyone wants to spend the days mucking about!
Dandelion and grass cake is on the menu!

When you have kids, every week is rock week - but this week we really embraced it. We collected, we washed, we smashed, we painted, we climbed… it really… ROCKED! 🤣

Last Monday was National Piñata Day! And what a perfect craft for earth week - a biodegradable piñata made out of recycling! They aren’t quite done yet, the kids are looking forward to painting and stuffing them this week!

Last week was Earth week and we did our best to clean up our neighbourhood paths, parks and roadways! It’s always disappointing to see how much garbage is on the side of the road, but we made a pretty big dent in the clean up!
And had some fun along the way!
