Exploring Animal Footprints in the Snow! ❄️🦊🦶 There’s nothing like a winter walk to spark curiosity and learning! Today, our little explorers set out to find animal footprints in the fresh snow. As we discovered tracks of rabbits, squirrels, and maybe even a fox, learning unfolded naturally all around us. 🔍 Math & Measurement: We compared the size of footprints, counted tracks, and measured the distance between them. This hands-on experience helped build an understanding of size, length, and patterns—core concepts in the math curriculum! 🌲 Science & Nature: Identifying tracks led to discussions about animal habitats, seasonal changes, and the needs of living things. We wondered aloud: What animals stay active in winter? Where do they find food? 🎨 Language & Literacy: The excitement of storytelling was everywhere. Children shared imaginative tales of where the animals might be going, enriching their vocabulary and building communication skills. 💡 Inquiry & Problem Solving: Each footprint was a clue! We hypothesized which animal it might belong to, tested our ideas by comparing with photos, and reflected on our discoveries. Embrace Winter’s Magic! ❄️🎣 Winter may be long, but it’s also filled with opportunities for adventure, learning, and connection! Instead of waiting for warmer days, we’re diving into winter fun—literally! We took the chilly season as inspiration and turned it into a playful learning experience for the kids. We built our own co-constructed ice hut and brought the magic of ice fishing indoors. The kids crafted their own paper fish, each with a different letter on it, and used makeshift fishing rods to “catch” them. Every catch became a chance to learn, from identifying letters to sounding out words. Not only did we share the tradition of ice fishing, but we also sparked imagination and built foundational literacy skills—all while embracing the season! Winter doesn’t have to mean staying inside and counting the days until spring. It’s a time to teach kids (and remind ourselves) to find joy and beauty in the frost and snow. 🌟 What a perfect fall day at Bry-Anne Farms in Fenwick! We explored the pumpkin patch and learned all about the pumpkin life cycle, which was so much fun. 🎃 We even met a talking scarecrow and had a great chat with the farmer! The tractor-pulled hayride was a blast, and navigating through the hay and corn maze added to the adventure. We enjoyed fresh farm apple snacks—so delicious! The highlight? Picking our own pumpkins to take home! For many of our students, it was their first time on a yellow school bus, making it even more special. What a perfect way to kick off the Thanksgiving weekend. 📚✨ Our little learners are diving into the world of letters and sounds with Bug Club books and the Phonics Companion, all guided by the fantastic Kindergarten continuum from DSBN curriculum services.

Today, we got creative with rocks and wooden letters to form words, and even explored counting sounds in our target words. Sand writing has been a hit too, helping us develop fine motor skills while having fun!

🌟 Today in kindergarten, we had a blast learning our letters with homemade playdough! Not only is it fun, but using playdough helps develop fine motor skills, enhances creativity, and reinforces letter recognition.

Here’s the yummy-smelling recipe we used:

✨ **Homemade Playdough**
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 cup of salt
- 4 tablespoons of cream of tartar
- 4 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 2 cups of warm water
- 3 ounces of Jello (any flavor you like)

Just mix it all together, cook on medium heat for about 8 minutes until it thickens and knead until it’s smooth! The kids loved squishing and shaping their letters while enjoying the delightful scent.

Playdough is not just a sensory experience; it encourages learning through play. What a great way to engage our Kinders! 🎉 DSBN

We also read "Picture a Tree" by Barbara Reid, which inspired us to visualize and draw our own trees. It was a day filled with creativity and discovery! 🌲❤️

We’re using blocks, counters, and even everyday items to estimate and count, helping our little learners think critically about numbers.
