Come on out to see Calgarys Best Technician Students Battle it out on Two Small Block Chevy engines. Eight teams of Two technicians will be assembling from the Short block up, setting up the cam timing and installing the timing chain and cover, with the Oil pan and Starter. Moving onto installing the assembled Cylinder Heads, Lifters,pushrods, and rocker arms. Topping it with the intake manifold, and valve covers. Finishing off with the distributor and spark plug wires, hooking up the Fuel feed and then the Battery to have the engine fire and run HANDS FREE for 5 seconds. At the 2011 Inaugeral Battle of the technicians we seen a Qualifying times of 9 minutes 14 seconds for John and Mark, and 9minutes 51 seconds for Team Honda. John and Mark took the Final with a record time of 7 minutes 52 seconds to win a pair of IPads, Sponsored By Auspice Capital of Calgary.

AAPEX reported on WrenchWay's survey of roughly 4,700 technicians, shop owners, managers, instructors and students. The survey found average annual compensation of $90,159 for auto technicians, while 58% of technicians said their shop provided fair compensation.

But 78% of technicians said higher pay was the most urgent issue that needed to be addressed to help fix the technician shortage. The survey also found that 70% said their shop did not provide a clear career path.

For shop owners, is pay really the biggest problem, or are management and career growth just as important?

The outdoor car show season came to an end this past Sunday with Battle of the Techs running presentation at the River City Cruisers car show. We had a pair of Youth come out from Airdrie, along with Paige, Leon, Tristan and Vanessa to make some laps on the engines.

We are thankful for this year to have the support of Downtown Mercedes-Benz Calgary as a sponsor. They will be hosting four qualifier events at the service centre through the winter. The first event is 23rd of October, the second is 28th of November 2026.
30th of January, and 13 of March 2027.

In preparation for the 2027 Calgary World Of Wheels happening 16-18 of April 2027.

These events at Downtown Mercedes-Benz are open to public for viewing, then supporting the teams that are putting time to qualifying from the various high school Bishop OByrne, Langdon horseshoe crossing, couple of schools out of Airdrie along with a few SAIT students, and past participants of Battle of the Techs.

Definitely a refined skill that has been lost, I have had the privilege to have been trained by a certified General Motors Grand Master Technician. I still get mybhamds one maybe two carbs a season yet to maintain my skillset

Snook’s Dream Cars, a vintage vehicle museum in Bowling Green, Ohio, announced its closure following the retirement of head mechanic Terry Stetler. Owner Jeff Snook stated that the facility could no longer maintain its operational fleet of 1930s to 1970s classic cars due to a regional shortage of technicians skilled in carburetor repair and mechanical tuning. Consequently, the museum's entire collection is scheduled to be auctioned off.
