One of the biggest lessons I learned working in daycare is that children thrive with routines.
Simple, predictable daily moments help children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. Routines donât need to be perfectâconsistency, patience, and connection matter most.

Public meltdown in the grocery storeâŚ
Youâre just trying to shop, and suddenly your child is crying or screaming and it feels like everyone is watching.
Take a breath â youâre not a bad parent, and your child isnât âmisbehaving.â Theyâre overwhelmed.
Stay calm, connect with your child, and if needed, step out. Thatâs okay.
Youâre not alone in this. đ¤

Many families ask me, âWhy doesnât my child listen when I say time out?â
Instead of using the word time out, try shifting your approach.
Children donât always understand punishmentâbut they do understand connection.
Try saying:
âLetâs take a break together.â
âI see youâre having a hard time, Iâm here.â
âLetâs calm our body first.â
When we guide instead of punish, children feel safeâand thatâs when real listening begins đ¤
If this sounds like your child, youâre not alone.

đż When a childâs dad is far away and unable to come back, the child may feel confused, sad, or unsettled. As an educator, I focus on creating a calm, safe space where the child feels secure, supported, and understood. I stay close, use a gentle voice, and help the child express their feelings in simple ways.
đż How I Understand the Childâs Feelings
I observe the childâs behavior, body language, and play. Changes like being quieter, more emotional, or clingy can show they are missing their parent. I listen carefully, stay at their level, and give them time to express themselves.
đż My Strategy
I use simple words to help name feelings, offer reassurance, and keep routines consistent. I support the child through play, connection, and patience, while also working closely with parents to provide consistency between home and daycare.
