As a lifelong learner, Bart Bagrowicz saw the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program at the Haskayne School of Business as a natural fit. Bagrowicz is currently the regional vice president for home financing solutions for B.C. and Yukon at Scotiabank, which has afforded him extensive industry experience. He also holds an MBA, along with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Asian Studies.
Yet Bagrowicz was still looking to build on his academic background and professional experience while connecting theory with practice — leading him to Haskayne's DBA.
“It offers a unique and complementary opportunity for further academic, and importantly, practical application and development,” he says.
What he did not expect was how humbling the experience would be.
“There is always so much more to learn and consider,” he reflects, adding that this perspective has shaped how he approaches his work, pushing him to think more critically and explore ideas more deeply.
His advice for future DBA students corresponds to this mindset: stay open, stay engaged and take time to reflect. Just as important, he says, is to “celebrate successes, even the small wins, along the way.”
Connecting research with real-world practice is at the core of the DBA program at Haskayne. Learn more about the DBA program here: https://bit.ly/4d5A7YM

Meet Amanda Bisson, a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) student at the Haskayne School of Business.
Before enrolling in the DBA program at Haskayne, Bisson had a clear vision of what she was looking for: "I was looking for a program to advance my career and academic journey," says Bisson, who also credits the faculty behind her decision to pursue her DBA at Haskayne, pointing to their experience and passion in helping students shift from practitioner to practitioner scholar.
What's surprised her the most since then? The community she has built. Bisson notes her classmates and professors are becoming first readers, reviewers, co‑researchers and future co‑writers. “The DBA process is not a lonely one,” she explains.
Her advice for anyone considering the DBA: go in with an open mind. Bisson encourages future students to accept that their ideas may change and to stay curious. Saying yes to opportunities, she says, has been an important part of her own growth!

On most days, Kenan Wipf is thinking one shot ahead. It’s a habit the celebrated curler and current Bachelor of Commerce student at Haskayne has built over years on the ice — reading angles, anticipating outcomes, adjusting for variables most people wouldn’t notice.
Yet for Wipf, the habits that have earned him success in competition don’t switch off when the broom is down. It’s also influenced how he’s shaping his path at Haskayne, and the way he is approaching his future in business
Fresh off earning the Dr. Dennis Kadatz Athlete of the Year award from the University of Calgary Dinos, we sat down with Wipf to explore what happens when “chess on ice” thinking carries into a business career.
