Most of us learn, somewhere along the way, which parts of ourselves feel safe to bring into the room.

And which parts might be better softened, hidden or reshaped.

Not because there's something wrong with those parts of us.

But because, at some point, adjusting ourselves may have helped us belong.

Be accepted.
Feel safe.
Be loved.
Avoid rejection.

And sometimes we become so good at it, we don't even realise we're still doing it.

**So what happens when we become curious about the parts of ourselves we've learned to edit?**

Not so we can become louder.

Not so we stop considering other people.

But so we have greater freedom to choose how we show up, rather than automatically shaping ourselves around how we believe we'll be received.

This is part of the invitation of **SHINE BRIGHT**.

Four immersive days to explore the patterns that may be limiting your authentic expression, and create space to experience and express more fully who you are.

**Be all of who you are.** πŸ’›

**What is the Benevolent Gaze?**

Many of us know what it feels like to look at someone we love with warmth, acceptance and care.

But what happens when we turn that same gaze towards ourselves?

In this video, Val explores the **Benevolent Gaze** β€” a practice at the heart of Core Wound Healing β€” and how the way we regard ourselves can influence how safe we feel to be fully seen and expressed.

A question to sit with:

**What does your internal gaze feel like?**

Is there space for a little more kindness there?

We’d love to hear what this brings up for you β€” share a thought or reflection in the comments below.

What if understanding the pattern hasn’t been enough to change it?

Sometimes we can see a pattern clearly.

We know what we do.
We may even understand where it came from.

And yet, in certain moments, we still find ourselves responding in the same familiar ways.

Core Wound Healing invites us to explore what sits beneath these patterns β€” not with judgement, but with what we call the **Benevolent Gaze**.

A way of meeting our own experience with curiosity, compassion and care.

As Ariel shares here, the wounds we carry don’t develop in isolation. They can be shaped by our families, our lineage and the culture we grow up within.

Our 5-week online workshop creates space to explore one of the patterns or stories currently limiting you, gently uncover what may be at its root, and begin to relate to it differently.

Our next two 5-week online workshops begin:

β†’ September 14 - October 19 β€” Early Bird ends today

β†’ September 19 - October 24 β€” Early Bird still available until August 29th

**Why five weeks?**

Because the thing troubling us on the surface isn't always where the story begins.

We might enter the workshop wanting to explore a habitual pattern, reaction or story that feels limiting to our joy, relationships, expression or potential.

And then, slowly, we get curious.

**What's underneath this?**

Through guided inquiry, reflection and practice, we begin following the threads.

A belief might reveal another belief.

A familiar reaction might begin to make more sense.

We may recognise feelings or experiences connected to the pattern that we hadn't previously considered.

And over time, we can begin to understand what may be sitting closer to the root.

From there, the work isn't simply about knowing **why**.

There is an opportunity to explore what truth may have been missing...

what the wound may have needed...

and what might support something within us to soften or shift.

Over five weeks, we give that exploration time and space to unfold.

**If you could bring ONE recurring story or pattern in your life into five weeks of curious exploration, what would you want to understand more deeply?**

Our next 5-week online Core Wound Healing Workshops begin this September.

Have you ever known exactly what you wanted to do differently... and still found yourself doing the same thing?

It can be frustrating.

Especially when we've already thought about it. Talked about it. Maybe even understood where it comes from.

But recurring patterns aren't necessarily evidence that we're not trying hard enough.
Sometimes, we're asking a response that was LEARNED FOR A REASON to simply disappear.

And that can be where curiosity becomes really useful.

Instead of immediately treating the pattern as something to fix, we can begin observing it.

When does it show up?
What tends to happen just before it?
What changes in our body?
What are we anticipating might happen?
What does the pattern seem to help us avoid, protect or preserve?

We don't need to have the answers.

The act of becoming curious changes how we meet ourselves.
And from there, we may begin to see possibilities that weren't available when we were simply trying to make ourselves behave differently.

This is some of what we explore in our 5-week online Core Wound Healing Workshops, with two groups beginning this September.

✨ Mondays | September 14 – October 19
✨ Saturdays | September 19 – October 24

Have you ever found yourself wondering...
"Why do I keep ending up here?"

Many of us assume that if we just understood ourselves better, tried harder, or had more willpower, things would change.

Sometimes they do.

But sometimes the same patterns continue to show up, despite our best intentions.

At Core Wound Healing, we understand these recurring patterns through the lens of Core Wounds. Deeply learned patterns that can continue influencing how we think, feel and respond, often long after they first developed.

The encouraging part is that these patterns can be understood.

When we understand them with curiosity and compassion, we create the possibility of responding differently.

And with that comes greater freedom to live in alignment with who we truly are.

πŸ’› Have you noticed any of these patterns in your own life?

Sometimes we think transformation happens in the breakthrough.

More often, it happens in what we choose to do afterwards.

The small choices.

The ordinary moments.

The willingness to keep practising what we've discovered.

Insight can arrive in a single moment.

A conversation shifts something.
A new perspective clicks.
A pattern suddenly makes sense.

Lasting change is rarely created by insight alone.

It's created in the days that follow.

Built in the moments when we choose what we've learned...
instead of what we've always done.

At Core Wound Healing, we often talk about integration.

Not because it's another concept to understand, but because it's where understanding gradually becomes the way we live.

That's where transformation takes root.

Jess is passionate about helping people live what they already know.

Not just during a workshop or retreat, but on Monday morning.

In conversations that matter.
In relationships.
At work.
As parents.
In the ordinary moments where lasting change is quietly built.

After experiencing the profound impact of Core Wound Healing in her own life, Jess joined the team to help others turn meaningful insight into meaningful change.

Her approach brings together years of professional training, personal practice, and a lifelong curiosity about what genuinely helps people grow.

She continues to learn, test, refine and integrate what she discovers through somatic mentoring, embodied yoga, holistic nutrition and music medicine, always asking:

How do we take what's supportive and actually live it?

Because wisdom isn't just something to understand.
It's something to embody.

✨ Dare to live your wisdom.

There are people who leave you feeling more seen.

Not because they analyse you.
Not because they have all the answers.
But because of the quality of their presence.

Val is one of those people.

Over more than three decades, she has devoted her life to exploring movement, theatre, somatic practice and embodied learning.

Not as performance, but as pathways back to ourselves.

She has a remarkable ability to meet people with warmth, curiosity and compassion, creating spaces where people naturally begin to soften, reconnect and discover parts of themselves they may have forgotten.

Her creative insight, intuitive presence and deep experience are an extraordinary gift to everyone who joins us.

We're incredibly grateful to have her co-leading this years SHINE BRIGHT four day women's retreat in Canmore.

There is something quietly reassuring about sitting with someone who has never stopped doing their own inner work.

Not because they have all the answers.

But because they continue asking thoughtful questions.

For more than 35 years, Ariel has remained committed to understanding what helps people create meaningful change, both professionally and personally.

Her work is shaped by an ongoing personal practice of reflection, inquiry and inner exploration. A commitment to continually deepening her understanding of herself, and through that, more deeply understanding others.

The result isn't simply knowledge.

It's a way of meeting people with genuine curiosity, compassion and care, while drawing from multiple perspectives. Because no single lens can fully explain what it means to be human.

We're so grateful to have Ariel leading our online workshops and co-leading our SHINE BRIGHT retreat.

πŸ’› Meet Ariel.
