It also builds concentration and patience, as they slow down and truly focus on what they see. At Grey Matter Montessori, learning comes alive through the senses—and this week, our focus is on the sense of smell. Our children are taking part in hands-on sensory activities where they explore and compare a variety of safe, familiar scents. From sweet and fruity to fresh and earthy, our little learners are discovering how different smells can evoke memories, emotions, and curiosity.

Through these engaging experiences, children are building important observation and classification skills as they notice similarities and differences between scents. It also supports language development as they learn to describe what they are smelling and share their thoughts with peers. Most importantly, it encourages curiosity and mindfulness, helping children slow down and truly engage with the world around them. At Grey Matter Montessori, we believe sensory exploration is a powerful foundation for early learning—and every scent tells a story.

This week, our children are discovering the world of texture through engaging, sensory-rich activities. From smooth and rough to soft and bumpy, our little learners are using their hands to explore a variety of materials, building awareness of how things feel and how we describe them.

Through these tactile experiences, children develop stronger sensory processing skills while also expanding their vocabulary as they learn to express what they feel. It encourages curiosity, focus, and confidence as they explore independently and make connections through play.
