It’s Pride Month! And so… I did a very gay thing. I read the novel that inspired Heated Rivalry.

There is a scene where Scott Hunter (closeted his whole career) wins the Stanley Cup and invites Kip to jump over the boards and celebrate with him. In front of every camera, every fan, he kisses him.

Right there in front of everyone.

No more hiding.

*Shivers* … I sat with that moment and felt my whole chest fill up. Empathy. Excitement. Hope. I want that kind of freedom for every young q***r person alive today.

I know it is not possible everywhere yet. In many countries, including parts of Africa where I grew up, that same kiss could cost someone their safety or their life. I carry that knowledge with me. And I refuse to let the fear make me quiet about who I am.

As a q***r person running a q***r-certified company through the ***rchamberca Canadian Q***r Chamber of Commerce (CQCC), I get to step forward and say it plainly.

Love is love.

We fall in love with souls. We do not always know which gender they are, and it does not matter. They are a soul.

Imagine if all of us could look at one another and see that. The humanity.

The divine spark in the other person.

Judgement would have so much less to hold onto, and so many of the walls between us would come down on their own.

That is the world I am working toward. Less judgement. More love across every divide. One conversation, one organizational training, one brave heart opening question at a time.

Here is to the beautiful new world we are creating. May it be so.

There’s a framework I’ve been thinking about a lot lately.
Dr. Amir Levine calls it CARRP. The five things that make a relationship feel genuinely safe:
Consistent.
Available.
Reliable.
Responsive.
Predictable.
Not exciting. Not grand gestures. Just those five, showing up over and over.
When I read that list, I immediately started running through people in my life. Some checked all five without even trying. Others… I had been working so hard to feel safe around, and no amount of effort on my part was going to create what wasn’t there.

Go find your CARRP people. And then ask yourself: am I being one?
