Associate Professor Heather Leier is preparing for her exhibition “Practice Pinny” from the 6th of February to the 30th of April in
The exhibition explores embodied knowledge through the repetitive gestures of printmaking, using her studio apron as a metaphor for preparation and care. Through quilt-like prints, textiles, and playful installations, she elevates feminine labor and critiques institutional wellness, weaving themes of coping, creativity, and the commodification of artistic practice.
Heather creates research-driven print installations and ephemera that explore embodied trauma, socially constructed identities, and negotiations of space, exhibiting internationally while also curating and teaching on Treaty 7 land.
Opening reception on the 5th of February 5:00 – 8:00pm

“Walking the streets of Budapest, I encountered this Lada 1200 built in 1989 parked on the street. I took this picture with care with my iPhone 16 Pro max and postprocessed the raw image from my phone with lightroom.”

The students of ART 475, Advanced Topics in Printmaking, and associate professor have put together an exhibition of printmaking banner works that are now installed in the +15 between Craigie Hall and the Art Parkade. This unique exhibition titled “Multiplicity through Collaboration” is a selection of works created by students through a collaborative exploration of screenprint, relief printmaking and cyanotype. Using recycled UCalgary pageantry banners as both material and conceptual underpinning, the artists share self-portraits that imagine personal identity within public contexts.
The project engages with the idea of “transfer”- of image, knowledge, and experience-while embracing multiplicity of voice and practice inherent in printmaking. This project uniquely animates the +15 bringing not only creativity, but also critical reflection to this transitory space.
This exhibition is on display until December 4th.

Advanced Topics in Art: Sustainable Art Practice—instructed by
RE:cycles, in the DAAH Little Gallery, showcases the work of students in Art 420.1, who investigated the many cycles; environmental, cultural, and material, that shape our world, even in its inherit unbalance. As we navigate a shifting climate and increasingly fragile ecological systems, students explored what it means to create art sustainably, either in process or in concept.
Through experimentation with reclaimed materials, ecological systems, and regenerative methods, these works reflect on sustainability not simply as an environmental concern, but as a cultural and ethical framework. Each piece invites viewers to consider how creative practice can respond to climate change, honour cyclical relationships, and imagine futures rooted in care, resilience, and responsible stewardship.
