This month in Miss Jenn’s class, the children have been continuing their exploration of animals 🐄🦁🐾

This week, the students created beautiful butterfly 🦋 crafts while practicing fine motor skills, creativity, and following directions. These will be found in their scrapbooks at the end of the year!

During story time, the children are helping Miss Jenn sort and identify which animals live on a farm and which do not. This helps to encourage language development, critical thinking, and early classification skills 😊

Our classroom sensory bin has been full of hands-on fun as the children use tongs and scoops to “feed” cardboard animals using dried lentils and pompoms.

Sensory bins are a great way to support hand-eye coordination, imaginative play, and to strengthen fine motor development 👐🏼

The children have also been enjoying kinetic sand exploration with animal footprint 🐾stampers, creating different tracks and imprints in the sand.

Sensory play like this helps develop creativity, sensory processing, and early science and observation skills 🔎

We love watching the children learn through play, curiosity, and exploration every day!

My Body has a Bubble by Nell Harris Kids Book Read Aloud 05/12/2026

For the last weeks of preschool, Miss Shannon is working on social emotional learning and development with the students.

In circle and story time, the focus has been on feelings, emotions, personal space, and asking for permission to get a hug (consent) 🤗

These are big topics for little ones and they take time for children to understand.

One of the stories that helps kids to understand personal space is called “My Body Has A Bubble” by Nell Harris.

Here is a link to Nell Harris reading the book on YouTube:

This is a helpful resource to check out if you would like to understand what Miss Shannon is explaining to the children.

And also a great concept to continue to explore at home by listening to the YouTube reading and talking about the book together 📖

If you have any questions about social emotional learning, please reach out!

This week at Puddleducks Preschool, both Miss Shannon and Miss Jenn’s classes have been busy exploring a fun and engaging obstacle course 🏃🏼‍♀️🌀 🏃🏼

Obstacle courses are more than just exciting—they play an important role in children’s development. As the children climb, crawl, balance, and jump their way through, they are building gross motor skills, improving coordination and balance, and strengthening their muscles 💪🏼

These activities also support spatial awareness as children learn how their bodies move in different environments.

Beyond the physical benefits, obstacle courses encourage problem-solving, confidence, and perseverance ⏱️

The children are making choices, figuring out how to navigate each part, and celebrating their accomplishments along the way 🎊

It’s been wonderful to see how much fun they have, as they develop these important skills ✨

In Miss Jenn’s 2-year-old class at Puddleducks Preschool, our little learners have been exploring the fascinating world of dinosaurs! 🦖

Through this exciting theme, we’ve been introducing basic opposite concepts like big and small, as well as bumpy and smooth—helping children build early language and observation skills in a fun, hands-on way.

As our learning grows, we’ve begun exploring different habitats and how animals are perfectly designed for where they live. By looking closely at features like wings🪽, feet 🐾, or flippers, the children are learning how to make simple connections about an animal’s home and environment 🪵🪨

As we move into the month of May, we’ll be expanding this learning into a broader study of animals—continuing to explore where they live and how their bodies give us important clues 🕵️

It’s amazing to see how curiosity and play come together to build meaningful learning experiences every day!

At Puddleducks Preschool, we believe children learn best when they are actively involved in creating their own experiences—and Miss Tanya has brought that idea to life in a big way!

She built a hands-on bulldozer for the children to climb into, explore, and imagine 🚧

From construction sites to rescue missions and everything in between, this simple creation has opened the door to endless possibilities!

Through imaginative play, the children are not just having fun—they are developing problem-solving skills, building language, practicing cooperation, and expressing their creativity.

When children take the lead in their play, they become confident, capable learners who are excited to explore the world around them.

We love watching their ideas come to life!

Duck update 🦆

They have grown so incredibly fast this week!

Today is the last day they will be at Puddleducks before heading to their home at the farm.

The students (& teachers!) have enjoyed watching their growth these past weeks! It has been such a wonderful learning experience for the children to see the eggs hatch, watch the ducks grow, learn about their habits and what they like to eat.

A huge thanks to Miss Jenn for taking this on! (And Miss Missiker who has taken care of the ducklings too!) 💛💛💛

The ducklings are getting lots of attention and love at Puddleducks 💛

The kids are enjoying watching the ducklings, and some of them were excited to get a chance to lightly pet them 🐥 not all the children want to pet them and that’s okay!

Fun Fact ⬇️
Ducklings are "precocial," which means they are independent and active almost as soon as they hatch.

Ducklings grow fast, keep an eye out here to see how they change!

🌸🐰 Springtime fun and learning in Miss Shannon’s class! 🐰🌸

This week has been full of exciting Easter-themed activities that kept our little learners moving, thinking, and exploring!

The children had a wonderful time dyeing Easter eggs, expressing their creativity while strengthening fine motor skills and exploring colors 🎨

Miss Tanya turned the dramatic play centre into an entertaining Easter Basket Factory, complete with plenty of eggs, stuffed chickens + bunnies, carrots 🥕 and more!

Our Easter obstacle course added an extra layer of fun, encouraging movement, balance, and confidence as they made their way through each challenge.

One of the highlights was our Easter egg hunt! This wasn’t just about finding eggs—it was a listening and learning experience. The children were asked to find foam eggs of specific colors and bring them back to Miss Shannon & Miss Kaite. This activity helps to build listening skills, focus, and the ability to follow directions in a fun and engaging way 💚🩵💙

We also spent time reading duck-themed books and connecting our learning to real-life experiences. The children were especially excited to visit Miss Jenn’s classroom to see the duck eggs in the incubator—and today, they got to meet the newly hatched ducklings! 🐥 What a special moment to bring learning to life and spark curiosity about the world around them.

What a week full of discovery, movement, and creative learning!

Wishing our families a wonderful Easter weekend.

A reminder that the preschool will be closed on April 3 for Good Friday, and will see everyone back to class on Monday, April 6 💛
