🚨 Phishing scams are getting smarter — are you keeping up?

Phishing is when cybercriminals disguise themselves as someone you trust — your bank, your employer, even a friend — to steal your personal information.

Here's how to spot one:
❌ Urgent messages: "Your account will be suspended!"
❌ Suspicious links that look almost real (e.g. paypa1.com instead of paypal.com)
❌ Requests for passwords, card numbers, or personal details via email or text
❌ Unexpected attachments from unknown senders

Golden rule: When in doubt, don't click. Go directly to the official website instead.

Your password is the key to your digital life - is it strong enough?

If your password is your name, birthday, or "password123"... we need to talk. 😅

3 simple rules for a stronger password:
- Use at least 12 characters
- Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
- Never reuse the same password across accounts
Bonus tip: Use a password manager - it remembers them all so you don't have to!

A joint investigation into the 23andme data breach by Canadian and UK privacy watchdogs was just released.

It found serious security failures and delayed breach response. 23andMe was fined £2.31 million in the UK. Canada lacks the authority to issue penalties but called for stronger privacy laws.

The breach raises concerns over how personal DNA data will be handled, especially since 23andMe has since filed for bankruptcy. Regulators are pushing to ensure future owners follow privacy laws.

Elysian Career College hosted a dynamic free event titled “Resume Power Hour” earlier today that focused on equipping job seekers with essential career tools. The session dove into resume writing strategies, effective job search techniques, and crucial interview tips, while also addressing modern challenges in the job market—such as the rise of AI tools and the use of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) for screening candidates. Speaker Ian delivered her teachings with diligence and clarity, clearly reflecting her passion for helping people secure meaningful work.

Fraudsters are now using AI to mimic voices, making scams more convincing than ever.

Experts warn that these scams, known as spear phishing, target individuals by cloning familiar voices from online clips. Even public figures, like MLA Diljeet Brar, have had their voices used in fraudulent calls.

🔹 How to protect yourself:
✅ If a call feels suspicious, hang up and call the person back on a trusted number.
✅ Ask unexpected questions—fraudsters won’t know personal details.
✅ Report AI-related fraud attempts to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
