Today, children explored a fun sensory experience using fresh spinach leaves and child-safe blunt-ended scissors. They carefully held, cut, snipped, and ripped the spinach into smaller pieces, using their hands and scissors to explore its different textures, shapes, and sounds. The activity encouraged fine-motor development, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and independence while providing a wonderful opportunity for open-ended sensory exploration. 🌿🌱✂️

🌳🌊💦 🛝Riley Park Wading Pool Field Trip: 👌🙌

We had a very successful 3rd field trip of August to Riley Park today! 🌞💦 Children had a wonderful time exploring the wading pool, splashing and playing in the water, enjoying the playground, and going on a nature walk. We also found a beautiful shady spot under a tree 🌳 beside the pool where children enjoyed their snacks and lunch together. It was a fun-filled day for children of all ages, with many opportunities to explore, discover, and develop new skills. 🌿

Today’s field trip supported children’s physical, social, cognitive, and sensory development. 🌧️📚🚒 A Rainy-Day Adventure at Fish Creek Library! 🌧️📚🚒👌

We had a blast at Fish Creek Library today during another successful field trip! 🙌💕 Despite the rain, we enjoyed walking through puddles from the parking lot before heading into the library. The children were thrilled to ride the elevator to the second floor, where they discovered a wonderful new learning environment. They explored a real fire truck 🚒, pretended to be firefighters, read books, built with different blocks, drew and scribbled on paper, made funny faces in the mirror, explored the light table, and enjoyed the indoor slide and caterpillar. Since it was rainy outside, we found a cozy corner to enjoy our lunch together in the library. This rich experience provided endless opportunities for exploration, imagination, social interaction, and hands-on learning.👌

Today, the children enjoyed a rich sensory play experience with pistachio shells outdoors. They explored the shells by touching and feeling their textures, moving their hands back and forth through the tray, and filling transparent narrow-mouth bottles.They were fascinated by creating sounds by shaking the bottles and discovered that the sound became sharper when the bottle had fewer shells, while the sound became softer and lower as more shells were added. After filling the bottles, they poured the shells into small bowls, dumped them back into the tray, and repeated the process again and again. Their curiosity and excitement kept them fully engaged for approximately 1.5 hours as they explored, experimented, and enjoyed the beautiful outdoor weather. 🙌

Today, we enjoyed a wonderful outdoor exploration filled with nature, movement, and hands-on discovery. We began with a beautiful nature walk around the pond, observing our surroundings and enjoying the fresh air. At the community park, the children explored different play structures by climbing, balancing, crawling, and sliding, building confidence through active play. We then enjoyed sensory exploration with rocks in the park, using shovels, rakes, buckets, and both narrow- and wide-mouth transparent containers to scoop, transfer, fill, and explore. The children were deeply engaged as they experimented with the materials, used their imaginations, and enjoyed learning through play.

Inspired by yesterday’s field trip to South Glenmore Park, where the children were fascinated by the many boats on the water, we brought that real-life experience into today’s play! The children explored floating paper boats in water and used straws to blow air toward their boats, eagerly experimenting with how their breath could make the boats move. As the paper boats became wet and water entered them, some began to sink, giving the children another exciting opportunity to observe and investigate what happens when materials become waterlogged.🙌🤝

Today we enjoyed a wonderful field trip to South Glenmore Park, and the children had an amazing time exploring the beautiful outdoor environment. They walked together, climbed playground equipment, swung high, slid down slides, ran freely across the open grassy areas, and discovered exciting musical play features. The children were fascinated as they observed the sparkling water of the reservoir and watched boats ⛵ sailing peacefully across the lake. They eagerly talked about what they saw, laughed together, encouraged one another, and created joyful memories through active outdoor exploration. It was truly a fun-filled day filled with adventure, curiosity, and meaningful learning!

🦀💦 Exploring, Pouring & Discovering with Our New Water Play Station! 🌞🫧

This weekend, we added a new multi-purpose sensory play container to our FunPark Dayhome, and today the children were excited to explore it for the very first time! To introduce this new addition to our outdoor learning environment, I set up an engaging water play experience on our deck. The children remained happily engaged for nearly 1.5 hours, using cups and funnels to fill narrow-mouth transparent bottles with water. As they experimented, they discovered that empty bottles floated on the water, but once they were filled, they became heavier, sank lower, and stood upright in the water. They also loved splashing their hands in the water and feeling the cool water sprinkles on their faces, filling the deck with laughter, excitement, and joyful smiles. This open-ended sensory experience encouraged curiosity, exploration, and hands-on learning through play.👌👌👌

This sensory water play supported many areas of children's development. Pouring and filling bottles strengthened fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and control of the small muscles needed for future writing. 🍪📖🐭Book-Inspired Chocolate Chip & Walnut Cookie Baking Adventure 👩‍🍳🍪

Today's baking experience was inspired by the beloved children's book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff, beautifully illustrated by Felicia Bond. 🍪📖🐭 The children had so much fun listening to this funny story, laughing together, and sharing their ideas. While reading, a few children excitedly asked if we could make cookies just like the mouse! We checked our kitchen, found all the ingredients, and followed a YouTube recipe together to bring the story to life. Over the next two hours, the children eagerly measured, poured 🫗, mixed dry and wet ingredients, cracked eggs 🥚, watched the hand mixer work its magic, and carefully added chocolate chips and walnuts to their cookie dough. Their favourite part was decorating the cookies with chocolate chips before proudly placing them in the oven. The room filled with cheers and clapping as they celebrated their teamwork, patiently waited for the cookies to bake, and finally enjoyed tasting their own delicious creations. It was a joyful, hands-on learning experience that beautifully connected literacy, cooking, creativity, and teamwork. ❤️

This baking activity supported many areas of children's development through play-based learning. Measuring ingredients introduced early math concepts such as counting, quantities, and sequencing, while mixing and pouring strengthened fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Following the recipe encouraged listening, problem-solving, and understanding step-by-step instructions. The children also explored simple science concepts by observing how ingredients changed when mixed and baked. Most importantly, working together built patience, cooperation, confidence, communication skills, and a strong sense of accomplishment as they proudly enjoyed the delicious cookies they had made with their own hands. 🍪🥚🧈📚
