To an adult, they might simply be things scattered around the yard.
To a child, they’re materials.
When children have time outdoors without every minute being directed, imagination and problem-solving begin to take over. They gather, arrange, change their minds, talk about their ideas, and work together.

😍 Learning to write your own name is a big deal when you’re little.

✍️ There is something special about the first word that truly belongs to a child: their name.

Before writing becomes easy, children are learning how to hold a pencil, control pressure, recognize letters, and remember the movements their hands need to make.
It takes concentration, repetition and time.

We guide them when they need us and give them opportunities to practice until gradually, there’s less help.

🌱 A bowl of plants, some dirt, a few tools, and several very curious children.
They pulled things apart, examined roots, compared leaves, sorted what they found and shared discoveries with one another. From the outside, it may look like children playing with plants.
Look closer, and you’ll find science, vocabulary, fine motor development, problem-solving, cooperation and concentration happening naturally.
This is why real experiences are such an important part of A Right Start Dayhome ayhome program.
Children don’t only need to hear about the world. They need opportunities to put their hands into it.

Children who spend time outdoors every day develop stronger problem-solving skills, creativity, confidence, and physical health.

That's why our garden is an extension of our classroom. Some of our best learning happens while digging in the soil, caring for plants, and discovering the wonders of nature.

As an early childhood educator, there's nothing more beautiful than watching a child's confidence grow through these everyday experiences.
