πβ¨ Exciting News! Our CDDH Lending Library is officially ready for educators to use!
Over the coming months, weβll be highlighting some of the amazing resources available to borrow. A full lending library catalogue is also on the way, making it easy to browse and reserve items for your dayhome program.
π Item Spotlight: Sensory Tiles π
These colourful sensory tiles are filled with liquid and respond to movement, pressure, and touch. Children can walk, crawl, jump, press, balance, and explore as the colours swirl and shift beneath them. The possibilities are endless!
Sensory tiles support:
π£ Sensory exploration
βοΈ Balance and coordination
πͺ Gross motor development
π§ Cause-and-effect learning
π¬ Conversation, curiosity, and wonder
They can be used as stepping stones, pathways, obstacle courses, calming sensory experiences, or as part of invitations to play. Educators have even incorporated them into light and dark room experiences, loose parts play, and movement activities.
We canβt wait to see how our educators use these engaging resources to spark creativity, exploration, and learning through play! Stay tuned for more Lending Library spotlights and keep an eye out for the catalogue coming soon. π

π¨β¨ We were blown away by the creativity in our CDDH Open-Ended Art Contest! While we recently announced our winner, we couldnβt resist sharing some of the many incredible submissions we received from our talented CDDH children and educators.
From painting on ice and creating with natural materials, to collaborative art, mixed media creations, and process-focused exploration, each submission showcased the beauty of open-ended art. There was no right or wrong way to createβjust imagination, curiosity, and self-expression at work.
Thank you to all of our educators for providing such meaningful creative opportunities and to the children for sharing their unique ideas with us. Every masterpiece tells a story, and we loved seeing them all! π

Congratulations to our Open-Ended Art Contest winner, Marissa D. from Airdrie! ππ¨
These little artists explored, created, mixed, painted, and discovered through hands-on messy play using toy vehicles and paint in the outdoor environment πποΈ
Open-ended art experiences like this encourage creativity, sensory exploration, imagination, and self-expression while allowing children to learn through play at their own pace. We love seeing educators create meaningful opportunities that spark curiosity and joy! π

Nature play, curiosity, and adventure πΏβοΈ
Children in Estefania P.βs dayhome in Cranston explored the outdoors through movement, discovery, and hands-on experiences. From climbing trees and observing insects to imaginative play with scarves in the wind, these everyday moments support confidence, problem-solving, creativity, and connection with nature. πππ
At CDDH, we value outdoor play as an important part of childrenβs learning and development.

Myth vs. Fact πβ¨
Licensed dayhomes are so much more than babysitting. In Alberta, licensed family dayhomes follow provincial regulations, safety standards, and ongoing monitoring while providing nurturing, relationship-based early learning experiences for children. π
At CDDH, we support educators through monthly consultant visits, safety checks, policy reviews, and ongoing mentorship to help create safe, enriching, and play-based learning environments inspired by the FLIGHT Framework. π±π§©π
Smaller group settings also give children opportunities to build strong relationships, confidence, communication skills, and meaningful connections through everyday experiences and play.
Save & share to help spread awareness about licensed dayhomes in Alberta! βοΈ

Tuesday Faces of CDDH! β¨
Meet one of our SE/SW Child Care Consultants, Vanessa πΏ
With 5 years at CDDH, Vanessa brings a passion for relationship-based care and meaningful connections with educators, and children. Growing up in a dayhome herself, with her mom operating a dayhome for 28 years, she understands firsthand the impact nurturing early learning environments can have on children and communities.
Born and raised in the Northwest Territories and bilingual in French and English, Vanessa is a strong advocate for play-based learning and supporting educators through the FLIGHT framework. When sheβs not visiting dayhomes, sheβs spending time with her bulldog Kobe πΎ
