The Oath of Transmission
A legacy is not just something we receive; it is something we carry.
We in the Canadian Aikido community have been profoundly blessed. For decades, we have stood on the shoulders of giants who shaped the very foundation of our practice.
The Foundation & The Vision
Kawahara Sensei was our architect. He united us from coast to coast under the single banner of the CAF, instilling the discipline and unity that allow us to flourish today.
The Living Lesson
Our current Technical Director, Osawa Sensei, is a rare bridge between unparalleled technical mastery and deep humanity. His care for his Canadian students is unmistakable—it lives in the passion of his teaching, the precision of his movement, and the uncompromisingly high standards he holds us to.
The Promise
To honor what has been given to me, I have composed a poem that now resides above our Kamiza. It serves as a permanent oath—a promise to do everything in my power to transmit Osawa Sensei’s lessons to the next generation.
受法愛護 Receive the law under loving protection.
深悟正道 Awaken to its true essence through deep understanding.
以心伝心 Transmit it, heart to heart.

Deep gratitude to Shodo Shihan Mami Humphreys (sho-artworks.com) for bringing these words to life with such powerful brushwork.

Congratulations to all of the amazing mile-stone certificates that were awarded last night! We are so grateful for everyone’s dedication shown through these achievements of hours and years practiced. To some, these certificates might just look like paper, but to those who understand the incredible amount of time, hard-work, sweat and tears it takes to achieve 3000+ hours or over 20 years of practice it is surreal.

Special shout out to Raoul Sensei and Jordie for celebrating 24 years of aikido practice! Wow! You are both such excellent leaders in our dojo community who train with intention and always humbly help those around them

And congratulations to Brad Sensei for achieving 28 years of aikido practice! Brad Sensei has been a pillar of BigRock Aikikai since our doors opened almost 30 years ago. Without his consistent kindness, guidance, and leadership our dojo would not be the same.

What an amazing celebration - thank you to everyone who sat through our almost 15 minute long presentation last night, and Kevin Sensei for awarding them all!🤣

PS - if you ever want to be tagged in a post that includes you, please just shoot us a DM and I am more than happy to add you!

ITP Olympics and Technical Overnight Camp 2026✅

A huge thank you to all of our instructors who participated in our intensive ITP camp this past weekend. I am still blown away with how many activities we were able to accomplish! Your dedication, focus, and commitment to making our dojo a kind, welcoming, supportive, and knowledgeable family means the world to Steve Sensei.

Our junior instructors were able to explore tricky leadership situations and work in small groups to create solutions together and learn from the senior’s guidance, hear speeches from the senior team, develop technical understanding from Steve Sensei, and bond through games and activities. Throughout the camp we also ran some of our favourite ITP Olympic events, such as; Ball Racking, Belt Chain Throw, Belt Chain Wrap, Japanese Terminology and Translation! There certainly was not a dull moment!

We are all looking forward to seeing the new leadership and technical skills that our junior instructors have developed this past weekend.

Thank you to the senior instructional team who organized and ran this event without a hitch. The amount of organization that goes on behind the scenes to create fantastic and educational events such as this is extensive, and we can’t do it without you all!

Looking forward to our next ITP camp already!

2026 ITP Overnight Camp Highlights!

WOW looking back at these photos from this past weekend, I feel so incredibly proud of all of our young instructors who came to camp with open minds, abundant energy, and the desire to learn how to improve their teaching skills.

This was a BUSY camp, with activities from our technical camps from the past, such as inspiring speeches from senior instructors, learning how to be a helper, games and activities that challenged critical thinking and collaboration. We also made time for ITP Olympic Events, such as Ball Racking, Japanese Terminology, Belt Chain Wrap, and many more.

I truly believe that the instructional team we have currently is a special group. They are all so dedicated to becoming better instructors and cultivating genuine relationships with our young students by observing skills from their seniors, asking questions, taking accountability for their actions, and continuously cheering each other on.

Well done, ITP! We all look forward to seeing what amazing skills you will develop next!
